Warning for portions of the following waterways in central and
southern Indiana...

  Flatrock River...Sugar Creek...

.Lowland flooding is expected to develop along parts of the Flatrock
River and Sugar Creek in central and southern Indiana tonight.
Flooding will affect some local and state roads, low agricultural
land, and some river parks.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

.Widespread lowland flooding developed along rivers and creeks
streams in central and southern Indiana. Significant flooding is
possible at a few locations. Flood crests will range from bankfull
to 9 feet above flood stage in the Montezuma area along the Wabash
River in western Indiana.

Flooding will affect local and some state roads, extensive
bottomlands, river parks and possibly a few residential areas.
Flooding will last through the weekend in central Indiana and persist
into the first week of February in southwest Indiana and southeast
Illinois.

Widespread rains of 1 to nearly 2 inches fell in central and
southern Indiana on Thursday night.  Melted precipitation since
January 10 totals from 2 to slightly more than 4 inches.

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  tomorrow morning then begin falling.
* At 19.0 feet...Flood waters cover SR 225 from just north of Stair 
  Road to just south of the bridge over the Wabash River. Tippecanoe 
  CR 950 W south of CR 75 S is completely flooded from the Wabash 
  Bottoms Janssen Tract area to Warren CR 350 N in the Black Rock 
  Preserve Area. Four residences on high ground along CR 950 W cannot
  access CR 950 W by land vehicles. Barton Beach and N River Rds 
  closed. Local roads in the Granville Bridge area and homes near N 
  9th St also affected.

  River in the Palestine area are impassable by any land vehicle.  
  Extensive backwater flooding of Minnow Slough, Sugar Creek and 
  Lamotte Creek in Palestine area. Numerous river cabins surrounded 
  by water across the river from Merom Bluff. Backyards of a few 
  residences southeast of Palestine along East River Road flood.

* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 13.1 feet by 
  tomorrow evening. The river will fall below flood stage Sunday 
  before midnight.
* At 13.2 feet...Lowland flooding in progress along Driftwood River in
  northern Bartholomew County on April 6, 2011. Double Y Saddle Club 
  area flooded. At least 6 inches of water flowing over CR 950N to 
  Club. Water is less than one foot away from CR 330W just south of 
  its intersection with Ohio Ridge Rd. CR 500N west of CR 250W is 
  flooded blocking vehicular access to residences near the river 
  bank. Lowell Public Access site is open but ramp is totally 
  flooded. Water close to one residence at Shelby CR 1000S and CR 
  900W.

  reported the following County Roads still under water; River Road, 
  entire Road; Bartlettsville Road, by the bridge and in the bottoms;
  Judah-Logan Road, by the bridge; Logan Bottoms, the gravel part; 
  Donica Church Road, between Logan Bottom and the hill; Peerless 
  Road, by Mica Metals; Little Salt Creek Run; Stumphole Bridge Road,
  near Indiana State Road 450; Huron-Williams Road; Lawrenceport 
  Road; Rivervale Road and Earl Road.

* Forecast...The river is forecast to have a maximum value of 21.3 
  feet early Wednesday morning.
* At 21.2 feet...At this level during December 2013 backwater reached 
  the tailwater of Lake Monroe as Salt Creek stopped falling. The 
  crest of the river followed 2 days later and reached 27.6 feet at 
  Bedford and caused Salt Creek to rise nearly 6 feet at the 
  tailwater of Monroe Lake.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following rivers in 
Indiana...

  Big Blue River...Driftwood River...East Fork White River...Eel 
  River...Flatrock River...Muscatatuck River...Sugar Creek...Wabash 
  River...White River...Wildcat Creek...

.Widespread lowland flooding developed along rivers and creeks
streams in central and southern Indiana. Significant flooding is
possible at a few locations. Flood crests will range from bankfull
to 9 feet above flood stage in the Montezuma area along the Wabash
River in western Indiana.

Flooding will affect local and some state roads, extensive
bottomlands, river parks and possibly a few residential areas.
Flooding will last through the weekend in central Indiana and persist
into the first week of February in southwest Indiana and southeast
Illinois.

Widespread rains of 1 to nearly 2 inches fell in central and
southern Indiana on Thursday night.  Melted precipitation since
January 10 totals from 2 to slightly more than 4 inches.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  Club. Water is less than one foot away from CR 330W just south of 
  its intersection with Ohio Ridge Rd. CR 500N west of CR 250W is 
  flooded blocking vehicular access to residences near the river 
  bank. Lowell Public Access site is open but ramp is totally 
  flooded. Water close to one residence at Shelby CR 1000S and CR 
  900W.

.Widespread lowland flooding developed along rivers and creeks
streams in central and southern Indiana. Significant flooding is
possible at a few locations. Flood crests will range from bankfull
to nearly 9 feet above flood stage in the Montezuma area along the
Wabash River in western Indiana.

Flooding will affect local and some state roads, extensive
bottomlands, river parks and possibly a few residential areas.
Flooding will last through the weekend in central Indiana and persist
into the first week of February in southwest Indiana and southeast
Illinois.

Widespread rains of 1 to nearly 2 inches fell in central and
southern Indiana on Thursday night.  Melted precipitation since
January 10 totals from 2 to slightly more than 4 inches.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 230 PM EST Fri Jan 20 2017

Mild and unsettled weather will continue across the Ohio Valley this
weekend with opportunities for scattered showers and a few
thunderstorms. After a brief break from the wet weather...another
storm system will track through the region the middle of next week
with colder temperatures more typical of late January and possibly
chances for light snow arriving by late week.

.NEAR TERM /Rest of Tonight/...

Chance of any showers is looking to be very slim at best.
So far nothing has developed near by and High Res model shows
only a slight chance far northwest next few hours at best.
Will continue slight chance POPS north and northwest and drop
mention of light showers elsewhere.  Lowered temperatures
slightly some areas and sky cover in the south due to recent trends.
LAV indicates temperatures may fall a few degrees late tonight
despite warm advection.  Confidence fog fog is low and will only
keep patchy fog late tonight with this update.  Rest of near term
is on track.

.SHORT TERM /Saturday through Monday/...

Forecast challenges focus on precip chances and temperatures
throughout the short term as the active...unsettled and mild weather
regime continues.

A moist southwest aloft will continue over the region into Sunday as
a dominant subtropical jet undercuts the upper low off the Pacific
Northwest and kicks out upper level waves downstream across the
eastern half of the country. Much of Saturday now appears relatively
quiet for central Indiana as the warm front lifts away to the north
and subtle ridging aloft develops between the aforementioned upper
wave tracking into the upper Midwest and a developing upper low
strengthening over the Southern Plains. Shallow isentropic lift will
continue on Saturday but limited forcing aloft at best should
maintain dry conditions across the forecast area until late day at
the earliest. Model soundings show the inversion persisting between
1000-2000ft for much of the day Saturday an combined with the
isentropic lift present below 900mb...suspect the stratus will
remain through midday in abundance with perhaps some breaks during
the afternoon as low level flow increases and aids in enhanced
mixing of the boundary layer.

A deep upper low sitting off the Pacific Northwest coast with a
strong subtropical jet undercutting the wave will maintain an active
weather pattern across much of the country through the weekend as
pieces of energy aloft continue to eject out into the central Plains
east into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys and the Deep South. Upper
level flow over the region will largely persist in a moist southwest
regime through Saturday night.

Deeper moisture will be drawn north beginning late Saturday and
especially Saturday night as the southern Plains upper low tracks
east and an intensifying surface wave organizes over the mid South.
Increasing low level convergence and the development of diffluent
flow aloft supports scattered convection increasing across the
entire area Saturday night. Elevated instability maximizes with
progged MLCAPE values up to 500 J/KG and will continue with a
thunder mention as a result. Precip water values will rise up to
0.80 to 1 inch Saturday night...250-300% of climatological normal.
While higher precip amounts should be much more localized than
recent events...additional flooding concerns could extend out
through the weekend after the heavy rains experienced Thursday
night.

Rain chances will continue Sunday and Sunday night as the upper low
tracks across the Southeast and into North Carolina by Monday
morning...amplifying as it does so. The surface low will continue to
intensify as well...residing northwest of the upper low over the
central Appalachians by early Monday. The close proximity of the
surface low will maintain periods of generally lighter rain across
the region within a cyclonic flow. Should begin to see chances for
rain shift east of the area through the day Monday as the surface
low tracks slowly northeast into the mid Atlantic region and deeper
moisture gradually moves out of the forecast area.

Temps...warm weather will continue Saturday and Sunday as low level
thermals are supportive of highs ranging from the upper 50s to the
mid 60s north to south. While this is unusually warm...record highs
for both days at Indy look safe by several degrees. Noticeably
cooler weather with highs in the 40s are expected Monday as colder
air is drawn into the region behind the east coast storm system.Lows
will be generally in the 40s through the period.

.LONG TERM /Monday night through Friday/...

The long term will begin with above normal temperatures and small
rain chances moving out of the area as an upper ridge builds in
and moves across central Indiana. Tuesday night a low pressure
system will approach from the plains and bring small chances for
rain with it. By Thursday though a broad upper trough across the
western and central U.S. will start to slowly move east, and this
will bring cold more seasonable air back to the area. Temperatures
will drop back to near normal for this time of year. Little upper
waves ejecting out of the upper trough could bring some
precipitation chances to the area for the remainder of the
extended, but right now there isn't a major forcing mechanism to
focus on so just used the small off and on chance pops from the
initialization. Because of the arrival of the colder air, could
see some snow or a rain/snow mix for anything that falls Wednesday
night on.

.AVIATION /Discussion for 210000Z TAF Issuance/...

Minor tweaks made to KIND TAF to better match current conditions.
No other changes are needed at this time.  Previous aviation
discussion follows...

Flying conditions will lower to IFR at KIND...KLAF...KHUF and MVFR
at KBMG by late evening as a light moist southerly flow continues
across the region.   Main factor will be low ceilings...but areas
of light fog will develop overnight.   Low pressure over the
central plains will move into the upper midwest Saturday.

With some daytime heating...flight conditions will improve to MVFR
or better most areas by midday Saturday.  However isolated showers
or even a thundershower over southern sections will develop late
Saturday.

Winds will be from the south at 5 knots or less tonight and early
Saturday and up to 10 knots Saturday afternoon.
