...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following rivers in 
central...western and southern Indiana...

  Driftwood River...East Fork White River...Muscatatuck River...Wabash
  River...White River...



.Widespread river flooding continues in central, western, and
southern Indiana early Wednesday afternoon.  Significant river
flooding was confined to southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois. 
The Wabash, White and East Fork White Rivers were all approaching
crest.  Rivers will remain near flood crests for 2 to 3 days in the
Petersburg, Hazleton, Mount Carmel and New Harmony areas.  Flooding
in southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois will continue through May
24.

Early Wednesday afternoon, the crest on the Wabash River had passed
Vincennes and the crest on the White River had passed Edwardsport. 
The crest on the East Fork White River was at Williams.  Flood
levels were receding upstream in the Terre Haute, Edwardsport, and
Rivervale areas.

Rainfall of slightly more than 2 inches fell in small areas of
central on Tuesday.  Brief rises were noted on local streams.
Additional rains of possibly more than an inch from Wednesday night
through Friday morning may occur.  Localized flooding is possible
again in central Indiana.  Widespread significant flooding as
experienced last week is not expected.

Additional rainfall in central Indiana will prolong river flooding
in southwest Indiana and not cause higher flood crests.

Flooding is affecting numerous roads, agricultural fields, parks and
camping grounds, a few residential areas, and possibly railroads.
Many local roads are flooded by more than a foot of water.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 25.3 feet by this
  afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage Friday morning.
* At 25.0 feet...A flood has exceeded this level each year since 
  January 2004, 6 out of 7 years since May 2002 and 10 times since 
  May 1990.  Of these 10 recent floods, 7 of them have exceeded the 
  25.8 foot mark with the January 2005 flood the largest since 
  January 1937.  Prior to May 1990, one must go back to March 1964 
  for a flood above 25 feet and back to May 1961 for a flood over 26 
  feet.  The greatest known flood to strike the Petersburg area 
  occurred in March 1913.

  Creek.  A heavy local rain would cause severe flooding to shopping 
  center near Kelso Creek.  Fort Knox Road floods at Snapp Creek.

  Numerous local river roads are underwater, some by a few feet.  A 
  few agricultural levees fail.  River is 3 miles wide at I-64.

.The Driftwood River in Bartholomew County fell below flood stage
this morning. Rain has moved out of central Indiana.  Dry weather
will prevail through Tuesday.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Be alert to flood debris on previously flooded roads. Keep children 
away from flooded areas. Recreational and agricultural interests 
should remain alert to changing river conditions.

.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 310 AM EDT Wed May 10 2017

A front will meander across central Indiana into Thursday, then an
area of low pressure will move through and drag the front south.
This results in chances for showers and thunderstorm into Friday.
High pressure will then build in and provide dry weather for the
weekend into early next week. For the most part, temperatures will
remain near normal to above normal.

.NEAR TERM.../Today/
Issued at 310 AM EDT Wed May 10 2017

The front has retreated to the southwestern forecast area early this
morning. Radar shows no activity in the area.

The front will lift northeast today as low pressure moves into the
Mississippi Valley. Not much if any upper support for the front with
weak upper ridging building in. Models have overdone rainfall so far
early this morning, so not much confidence in their showing rainfall
for the remainder of the morning.

While cannot rule out an isolated shower or two, will go dry into
early afternoon due to the lack of forcing. During the afternoon,
will increase PoPs into the slight chance and chance category.
Highest PoPs will be across the northeast half of the area closer to
the front.

A model blend looks good for temperatures with the front moving
north today, and the blend actually ends up not too far off from the
MAV MOS.

.SHORT TERM.../Tonight through Friday night/

Most models are close enough that the model blend initialization was
accepted for most items.

Tonight an area of low pressure will move into northern Indiana, and
some additional upper support will arrive. This should allow for
more widespread showers and storms to develop, especially across the
northern forecast area closer to the surface low. Will bring PoPs to
likely or above for the northern 2/3 of the area with chance PoPs
south.

During Thursday the area will see likely PoPs first north then south
as the front slides to the south.

Chance or lower PoPs will then linger into Friday as some models
show another wave riding along the front, and an upper trough will
still have to move through.

Heavy rain remains a possibility with precipitable water values
perhaps exceeding 1.5 inches at times. The ground remains saturated
for parts of the area, so will have to keep an eye out for
additional flooding.

A few strong to perhaps severe storms are possible tonight and
Thursday per the Storm Prediction Center outlooks. Instability is
decent, but the better shear remains to our west tonight. Thursday
the better instability will be across the southern forecast area
ahead of the cold front.

.LONG TERM /Saturday through Tuesday/...

Models and blend favor mostly dry weather and seasonable to slightly
above temperatures for the weekend and early next week.

The long term will start off with an Omega block with a ridge over
the central states and upper lows over Ontario and British Columbia.
This upper ridge will slowly settle east and be over the Great Lakes
and Ohio Valley by next Monday night into Tuesday. This supports the
dry weather and normal to slightly above temperatures from the
blend.

.AVIATION /Discussion for the 10/12Z TAF Issuance/...

MVFR fog shift lift after 14z leaving behind VFR conditions. Then,
should see thunderstorms pop up after 20z per the High Resolution
Rapid Refresh. Could see some MVFR or worse conditions in
thunderstorms.

Winds will be low confidence do to the front being around. That
said, winds will shift from having an easterly component ahead of
the front to a southwesterly one behind it and after 18z. Wind
speeds will be less than 10 knots.

This hazardous weather outlook is for central Indiana.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Outlook: Moderate river flooding will continue along lower parts of
the Wabash and White. Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and
evening. There is a Marginal Risk of severe storms. A few could be
severe with large hail and damaging winds possible. Heavy rain and
flooding are also possible.

Hazards: River Flooding. Large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain,
flooding and lightning.

Timing: River flooding will continue. Best chances of Thunderstorm
related hazards 3 pm to Midnight.

Discussion: Flooding will continue along lower sections of central
Indiana rivers. Thunderstorms will return this afternoon as a quasi-
stationary front interacts with deep moisture and an unstable
atmosphere.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday.

Outlook: Minor to Moderate flooding will continue over parts of the
lower Wabash and White rivers through the weekend and into early next
week.

Thunderstorms will be possible Thursday and Thursday night.
There is a Marginal Risk and Slight Risk for severe storms south of
Interstate 70. Large hail and damaging winds are possible. Gusty
winds, brief heavy rain and cloud to ground lightning will be
a threat with any storm.

Discussion: Thunderstorms are possible over all or parts of central
Indiana through Thursday night. Dry conditions will return Friday
afternoon as a frontal system sweeps across central Indiana.

Spotter activation is possible this afternoon and evening and
Thursday afternoon and evening.
