Issued at 208 AM EDT Wed May 3 2017

Weak high pressure across the Ohio valley will drift east today
and exit the area. This will bring mainly dry weather to Central
Indiana today.

Low pressure is expected to develop over the southern plains today
and push a warm front into Kentucky tonight. This will bring rain
chances back to Central Indiana which will continue into Thursday.
This power low pressure system is expected to move across southern
Indiana through Friday...and may bring heavy rains at time which
could result in flooding.

The low will slowly depart on Saturday...however lingering rain
showers will still be possible for the first part of the weekend.
Weak High pressure is expected to arrive on Sunday...bringing a
return to dry weather for the next work week.

.NEAR TERM /Today/...

Issued at 208 AM EDT Wed May 3 2017

Surface analysis early this morning shows weak but broad high
pressure in place from Wisconsin...across Indiana to the deep
south. Low pressure was found near the Texas panhandle. GOES-R
shows convection developing northeast of the low...over Oklahoma
and southern Kansas. A warm front was found across
Oklahoma...stretching east to Arkansas. Water Vapor shows a strong
short wave dropping south into the southern plains from Colorado.

Main forecast Challenge today will be pops.

Time height today show increasing moisture aloft through the day
as the high pressure system slowly departs. Forecast soundings
likewise show dry conditions within the lower levels. However
excellent warm front devlopment occurs late in the day across
Western kentucky as Low pressure approaches. Rapid Refresh
suggests that good moisture and precip arriving in the west late
in the day. Thus will keep a dry forecast for much of the area
through about 20Z...but begin to ramp up pops...especially across
the across the west after 20Z. Given the cool NE flow expected
across our area on the north side of the warm front will trend
highs today toward the cooler side of the blend.

.SHORT TERM /Tonight through Friday night/...

Issued at 208 AM EDT Wed May 3 2017

Another potential Heavy rain event is in store Tonight and
Thursday.

An excellent dynamic set up is poised to be in place tonight as
low pressure pushes east toward Kentucky and a warm front surges
north to the Ohio River. 295K Isentropic surface shows excellent
up-glide with a very moist specific humidities over 7 g/kg/ Time
Heights and forecast soundings show a saturated column. Meanwhile
aloft a strong short wave arrives ahead of a strong deepening
trough approaching the Ohio Valley. Given the expected moisture
and forcing...will trend toward 100 pops tonight and Thursday as
these features pass. Given the recent rains and saturated
grounds...additional heavy rains could cause flooding. As 2-3
inches of rain will be possible...will once again hoist the flash
flood watch...matching our neighboring offices.

As for temps will trend tonight's lows warmer and Thursday highs
cooler given the expected rain and clouds.

By Thursday night...the 295K GFS Surface shows best Isentropic
lift is lost and pushes east to Ohio. Specific humidities remain
high over 9 g/kg...wrapping around the storm. Forecast soundings
show a mostly saturated column...albeit there appears to be some
dry air intruding as the best forcing is lost. Still...strong
lower level cyclonic flow will be in place as the surface low
moves across Kentucky...putting Central Indiana in a favorable
position to experience a cold side rain shield. Thus will again
trend pops on Thursday night into Friday higher than the forecast
builder blend...and will continue similar trend with lows warmer
and highs cooler than the blend.

By Friday Night...lighter showers still cannot be ruled out.
Models suggest the low pressure system evolves into a Broad low
spanning from Western NY across Ohio to eastern KY...With broad
cyclonic flow in place across the region including Indiana.
Furthermore Models hint at a secondary short wave dropping out of
Canada across the Great lakes late Friday Night into Saturday.
Again...all this adds up to rain chances and cool temps. Will
continue to trend pops higher than the blends.

.LONG TERM /Friday night through Tuesday/...
Issued at 225 PM EDT Tue May 2 2017

The long term will start off with the potent heavy rain producing
system lifting northeast away from the upper Ohio Valley. This will
bring an end to the heavy rainfall with low pops looking ok Friday
night east. Then, a lobe of low pressure on the back side of the
upper low will bring more showers to the area for Saturday. However,
these should be lighter and not cause any further flood issues.
After that, decreasing cloud cover and moderating temperatures will
be the main highlight under high pressure. Temperatures expected to
climb from the 50s on Saturday to the 60s next week, per blend.

.AVIATION /Discussion for the 030600Z TAF Issuance/...
Issued at 1145 PM EDT Tue May 2 2017

VFR until late in the day Wednesday...then becoming MVFR and IFR
some areas by end of forecast period.

High pressure will move east across Indiana late tonight which
will result in clearing skies tonight.   Mid clouds will then spread
into western and southern sections by daybreak and over rest of the
area by mid morning.  Low pressure will move into the southern plains
Wednesday and into the lower Mississippi valley Wednesday night.
Rain showers will spread into southern and western sections by late
morning and elsewhere late Wednesday.  Ceilings will gradually lower
to 3 thousand feet late Wednesday and possibly IFR some areas by
end of the forecast period.

Light northwest or north winds overnight becoming east 5 to 8 knots
Wednesday and increase to 12 to 15 knots by end of the forecast
period.

and Friday providing another long duration heavy rain event for
Indiana.
