* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by early Saturday morning and 
  continue to rise to near 10.2 feet by early Sunday morning. The 
  river will fall below flood stage by Monday morning.
* Impact...At 9.0 feet...Water crosses 95th Avenue in a small section,
  between Dean and Sallee Roads. Water spreads over low spots across 
  cropland or fields. More sections of the banks will overflow.

* Impact...At 8.6 feet...The creek overflows it's banks in a few 
  sections and stands in low spots in fields and ditches along 
  roadway near 85th Ave. A few low water crossings along Sallee just 
  north and south of 95th Ave as well as west of Sallee on 95th Ave 
  will see a few inches of water standing on roadway.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Sunday night)
Issued at 313 AM CDT Fri Oct 6 2017

Water vapor imagery shows shortwave energy tracking over the
central Great Basin and approaching the central Rockies. At the
surface, stationary front stretches from southern IA into
northern/western KS.

Should see some pockets of showers this morning as an area of mid
level moisture transport/isentropic lift passes over the area.
Expecting an overall decrease in precip as the afternoon hours
approach and the better mid level theta-e advection lifts
northeast. Attention will then turn to a cold front/dryline over
western KS. By 21z, cold front is expected to stretch from near
KHLC to near KGCK with a dry line extending south of this
location. With strong forcing and minimal capping, storms should
develop by 21z. It appears the 00z model runs have slowed the
progression of the front down, so not expecting anything near the
Wichita area until near or after 10 pm.

There will be a few hour window after storms first develop that
some supercells will be possible. This will especially be true
near or south of the triple point where low level shear will be
maximized. In addition, deep layer shear vectors will be more
normal to the front/dryline promoting more isolated cells. Cold
front will be very progressive after 00z which will allow storms
to start to line-out. While it's not out of the question a few of
our far western counties may see some supercell structures, feel
that majority of what our forecast area will see will be more
linear in nature. Even with this being main storm mode, large hail
will still be possible and of course straight-line winds. By
sunrise Sat morning, storms should be exiting far southeast KS.

Shortwave will be over the Mississippi Valley by Sat afternoon as
zonal flow sets up over the Plains. Not expecting much of a cool
down behind the front with highs on Sat in the mid 70s and back in
the upper 70s to around 80 on Sun.

.LONG TERM...(Monday through Thursday)

There is good model agreement that another shortwave will track
toward the Central Great Basin and into the Central Rockies by
Monday. This will allow another cold front to move through Mon
into Mon evening which will also bring shower and storm chances.
The airmass behind this front will be significantly colder than
the one this weekend, with highs in the 60s for Tue and Wed.

.AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Saturday morning)

Low clouds will affect a few locations across central/south
central Kansas early this morning, however expecting low clouds to
scatter out for later this morning into the afternoon hours.
Meanwhile thunderstorms will develop along a southeast moving cold
front for late this afternoon in central Kansas, and continue
spreading eastward tonight. Some severe weather will be possible
for  central Kansas.

Severe storms will be likely after 4 pm for areas generally west of
highway 14 with this activity reaching I-135 generally after 9 pm.
Hail to the size of half dollars and 70 mph winds can be expected
with the stronger storms, along with heavy rainfall and associated
flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

Storms will be possible late Sunday night over central Kansas and
area wide on Monday into Monday evening. Severe storms are not
expected with this activity.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotter activation maybe needed early this evening for areas
generally west of I-135.
