additional frost or freeze products will be issued this fall 
since we are now passing the climatological date of expected 
freezing temperatures for our area. Frost/freeze products will

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold Canadian airmass will push into the region today and hold
temperatures well below normal through the weekend. A weak frontal
system will approach the area late Sunday and cross east through
Monday. Cool and dry conditions will persist next week as broad high
pressure lingers over the area.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 215 AM EST Friday: Shortwave upper low will continue to lift
northeast and out of the area today, with low-amplitude troughing
remaining in place. With some residual boundary-layer moisture,
should continue to see some patchy fog this morning especially
across the Upstate and Upper Savannah Valley. Strong surface high
pressure over the Great Lakes under the confluent flow aloft will
slide east today with the wavetrain, beginning to dam down the
Eastern Seaboard tonight. Dry wedge/backdoor front will slide down
the area and we may see some mountain cirrus, but for the most part
skies should be clear. This and the dry airmass will allow
temperatures to climb today a handful of degrees warmer than
yesterday across the Piedmont (not so much across the mountains),
but still a good 5-8 or so degrees below normal. For tonight, the
strong CAA associated with the dry onset classical CAD will drop the
temperatures quite a bit, with a hard freeze expected across
portions of the NW NC Piedmont and mountains, so converting the
Freeze Watch to a Warning across those counties is a slam dunk. How
far SW the cold temperatures make it is a bit of an unknown, and
confidence across the SC Upstate is naturally not as high as across
the NC Piedmont, but will go ahead and convert the Upstate Freeze
Watch to a Warning as well.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
As of 245 AM EST Friday: the short-term fcst picks up at 12z on
Saturday with relatively zonal upper lvl flow over the region. By
late Sunday, an embedded upper trof will amplify and approach the
fcst area from the NW as upper ridging builds over the Western
CONUS. The trof axis is expected to move over the CWFA by the end
of the period early Monday, with heights recovering in its wake.
At the sfc, strong high pressure will be in place across the
Eastern CONUS with the center of the high moving eastward over
New England. This setup will create a wedge over the Carolinas
for much of the weekend as the high lingers to our NE. By late
Sunday, the high will be moving offshore as a weak frontal bndy
approaches the CWFA from the west. The model guidance has the
front moving thru the fcst area early Monday and SE of the area
as we move into the extended period. As for the sensible wx,
Sat should be dry with temps well below normal. On Sun, cloud
cover will gradually increase thru the day as the wedge weakens
and low-lvl moisture increases from the south. There is a slight
chance we could see some very brief sleet/snow over the CWFA
early Sun morning if the temps remain cold enough. During this
period the PoPs are slight chance at best, and after roughly
12z temps become too warm to support frozen precip. PoPs increase
during the afternoon/evening, however any QPF should be light.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 220 AM Friday: An h5 s/w will be crossing the FA at the
beginning of the ext range. The op models agree well with the timing
and progression of this wave as well as the general lack of moisture
in the low levels. Thus...the associated sfc bndry will have little
to work with and nil PoPs have been maintained thru FROPA. Winds
will shift n/ly to ne/ly Mon thru Tue while a s/w ridge and a 1030
mb sfc high encompasses the area. This new airmass wont be as cold
as the previous Canadian high pressure...but it will be cool enuf to
hold temps below seasonal levels by a few degrees within a slowly
modifying and high insol atmos.

Surface layered winds will shift s/ly ahead of another weak bndry
approaching the NC mtns Wed. This will allow pwat values to reach
around an inch most locales and increase sky cover somewhat. The
front itself will be weakly forced and shud lose definition as it
moves across the higher terrain Wed night into Thu. A 295 K isentrop
analysis indicates a brief window of time when the front may
actually have enough moisture and lift to produce isol/sct -shra btw
21z Wed and 00z Thu. Due to low dynamics/moisture along with
uncertainty had in the overall synoptic pattern by that
time...expect little precip with dry air likely advecting in rather
quickly thru the Wed night period.

.AVIATION /08Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
At KCLT and Elsewhere: VFR at TAF time with the exception of KAND,
where an area of LIFR fog/low stratus will continue to affect the
site. IFR fog in the proximity of KCLT along with observed SCT002
prompted a TEMPO for restrictions, though confidence not
particularly high. Other TAFs should remain VFR through the period;
patchy cirrus cannot be ruled out but mostly SKC. Lgt/vrb winds
favoring NW will shift NE and increase to 5-10kt during the day for
all but KAVL, where NW winds will hover at or just under 10kt
tonight, increasing with low-end gusts this afternoon.

Outlook: Expect VFR conditions Saturday as cool and dry high
pressure builds in from the north. Some low clouds may return late
Sunday and Monday, which could become a flight restriction.
Conditions will most likely be VFR for Tuesday and Wednesday.
