The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Yancey County in western North Carolina...
* Until 945 PM EDT Monday
* At 340 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Widespread rainfall totals of 2-
5 inches has already occurred since early this morning. An
additional 1-2 inches of rainfall is likely as the final round of
rainfall pushes across the warned area over the next 60-90
minutes. This heavy rainfall is causing flooding of streams and
other low-lying areas across the warned area.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Burnsville, Mount Mitchell State Park, Ramseytown, Busick,
Micaville, Green Mountain, Celo, Swiss, B.R. Parkway-Craggy To
Little Switzerland and Poplar.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
In hilly and mountainous terrain, there are hundreds of low-water
crossings which can be dangerous in heavy rain. Low-water crossings
can be submerged by flood waters quickly and without warning. Never
attempt to travel across flooded crossings. Find an alternate route.
It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles
away.

flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather

The Flash Flood Warning for Yancey County has been REPLACED by a NEW
Flood Warning for Yancey, Mitchell, Avery, McDowell, Burke, and
western Caldwell counties. Minor flooding is ongoing across this
area and is expected to continue for at least the next 3-6 hours.
Some streams continue to rise slowly and several roads remain
impassable. Please obey barricades, continue to avoid low-water
crossings and never drive through flooded roadways.
