Gusty westerly winds will cause wind chills to fall to around 20 below zero across the western portion of the cwa today, then across the eastern portion later this afternoon and this evening. 850 mb temperatures will plummet to -25 to -30 degrees tonight, this combined with mostly clear skies and daytime highs already around zero or lower will push overnight lows well below zero across the area Christmas night. Lows tonight are expected to plummet to around 20 below zero across the north, with lows around 10 below zero across east-central Wisconsin and single digits below zero near the lakeshore. Winds are not expected to be calm tonight, which will cause wind chills to fall to 25 to 35 below zero across the area tonight into Tuesday morning with some areas across the north approaching 40 below.
