Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Green Bay WI 1253 PM CDT Thu Sep 7 2017 Updated aviation portion for 18Z TAF issuance .SHORT TERM...Today...Tonight...and Friday Issued at 320 AM CDT Thu Sep 7 2017 Additional mid level shortwaves will rotate around a broad trof located over the western Great Lakes today and this evening, bringing the chance for more showers to the region. The best chance will be during the afternoon hours with the additional boost afforded by diurnal heating, much like the last few days. However some modest instability today will bring the chance for a few thunderstorms across the eastern cwa as MUCAPEs rise to a few hundred J/kg. Highs today are only expected to rise into the middle 50s to lower 60s. Rain chances will slowly wane this evening as the trof finally exits the region and ridging makes its way over the western Great Lakes region. This will bring clearing skies from north to south and light winds which will allow for some frost formation across north-central Wisconsin during the overnight hours and into Friday morning. Lows tonight will range from the lower to middle 30s across the north, with lows around 40 across the south. Despite the frost formation will hold off on any headlines with this issuance as a slower progression of the system would keep clouds in a bit longer and therefore keep temperatures a bit warmer. Mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures will be had for the end of the work week as high pressure builds in across the western Great Lakes region. Highs on Friday are expected to be in the lower to middle 60s. .LONG TERM...Friday Night Through Wednesday Issued at 320 AM CDT Thu Sep 7 2017 A mid level ridge is forecast to move into the region as the trough to the east departs. A closed 500 mb high is expected to develop over the Great Lakes during the weekend. A narrow ridge will remain across Wisconsin into midweek as a mid level short wave approaches from the west and what's left of Irma approaches the Ohio Valley. The 00Z models keep the forecast area dry throughout the long term with a gradual warming trend. Cool temperatures are in store for Friday night when there will at least be areas of frost across north central Wisconsin. Patchy frost is possible in that part of the state again on Saturday night, but lows should be in the 40s or warmer across the area thereafter. Highs are expected to be around 5 degrees below normal on Saturday but they should be near normal by Monday at a little bit warmer for Tuesday and Wednesday. && .AVIATION...for 18Z TAF Issuance Issued at 1253 PM CDT Thu Sep 7 2017 Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely through early evening as an upper level disturbance moves across the area.
