.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Sunday)
Issued at 335 PM CDT Sat Oct 7 2017

Somewhat cool and dry air settling into the area tonight as a weak
wave moves through and turns winds to a more northerly direction.
Along with mostly clear skies this will allow temperatures to fall
into the 40s on Sunday morning. Right now not expecting as much fog
as what was west of I-29 this morning since the residual low level
moisture is scoured out, but some patchy fog will be possible with
wet soil conditions and cool air temperatures.

Mid and high level clouds will be on the increase Sunday, but the
day is expected to be dry. With the cooler air in place highs should
remain in the 60s with a north wind about 10 to 20 mph as low
pressure at the surface gets more organized over Colorado.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Saturday)

Clouds will increase on Sunday night out ahead of an upper level
trough situated over the Rockies which will move eastward. Will
remain primarily dry overnight, though cannot rule out a few showers
encroaching on our south central SD zones toward 12Z on Monday. It
will be a cool night with lows in the lower to mid 40s.

Some differences with models in regard to rain chances on Monday,
though any forcing is pretty weak, so only very scattered showers
would be a threat, mainly in areas south of Interstate 90. With
clouds and a northerly low level flow, it will be a very cool day
with highs lower to mid 50s.

On Monday night, the upper level trough begins to slide across the
central CONUS, with a cut off low developing over the Central
Plains. Most models have any light rain showers ending in our
southeast after midnight, with the NAM being an exception in being
more bullish in developing precipitation across our south later at
night. Discounted that solution at this point with it being an
outlier. Colder air begins to feed into the area overnight, with 850
mb temperatures touching on 0 C over parts of the area. Luckily , it
appears that the precipitation threat will end as the colder air
comes in. Banking on the clouds clearing from the west overnight,
there will be a threat for frost over all but far northwestern IA as
temps dip into the upper 20s through the Chamberlain to Huron
corridor, to lower to mid 30s elsewhere.

The aforementioned upper level low lifts into the central
Mississippi Valley on Tuesday, and could keep a rain threat going
over northwestern IA during the day. With cold air having settled
into the region, looking at highs again only lower to mid 50s.

In an evolving southwesterly upper level flow, temperatures will
rebound for the middle and end of next week, with highs back into
the 60s. It looks to be dry through through at least Friday, then an
increasing rain threat by Saturday as a western CONUS upper level
trough lifts into the region.

.AVIATION...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Sunday evening)

VFR conditions are expected through the TAF period. The one caveat
to this is the potential for patchy fog along and east of I-29
overnight and early Sunday. Given the patchy and likely shallow
nature of any fog that forms, confidence in it impacting any one
particular TAF site precludes mention at this time. LLWS is also
expected to be present overnight at KFSD and KSUX.
