Increased pcpn chances for a few more hours this morning across
west central Minnesota where it is currently lightly snowing. This
should exit off to the east by then and be replaced by more snow
moving in from central and south central ND. Increased pcpn
chances this afternoon and moved them more over the far southern
Red River Valley. Both areas of light snow will be minimal,
mainly a dusting. Lots of variability in the clouds, but overall
think it will stay more cloudy than not today.

Water vapor loop indicated short waves over north central ND,
northeast MT, and the southern ALTA/SASK border. Short waves
will rotate south and east through a large upper level low
over central Canada and the Northern Plains.
Plenty of clouds forecast for today and tonight across the
area. Clouds may not allow temps to get as cold as forecast
for Sun night. Think it will be clear and cold over southern
Canada and cold air will advect under cloud deck over the Red
River Valley. Will hold off on issuing headlines at this time.
Cold front over the area has stalled or slowed significantly
over the southern Red River Valley.

A piece of the polar vortex will be over NW Ontario at 12z Monday
with arctic air in place for Christmas Day and Tuesday. Expect
temperatures to stay below zero both day and enough of a wind to
create low wind chills. Mid to late week the 500 mb flow becomes
more westerly or west-northwest but only slow moderation of the
arctic airmass in place. But with the upper flow more westerly
there are a couple of short waves the ECMWF/GFS/GEM indicate will
bring increased light snow chances, the main one on Thursday per
GFS but more like late Thursday/Friday morning per ECMWF. GEM does
develop this system a bit stronger to our east so something to
watch as may need to increase pops Thu or Fri.
