The remnants of Harvey will move north of the area today but still allow for numerous showers and thunderstorms. There is a slight chance of severe storms with this activity with isolated tornadoes being the primary concern. Heavy rain will also be present with the activity with isolated instances of flash flooding possible, mainly in the normal poor drainage areas. Strong wind gusts will be possible as well over portions of NW Georgia, especially in the higher elevations. Wind gusts to 25 to 30 mph will be possible by this evening and conditions will need to be monitored for a possible wind advisory. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday... There will be a chance of thunderstorms across the area on Friday and across mainly central Georgia Saturday The main hazards will be occasional lightning and locally heavy rainfall. A cold front will bring another good chance of showers and thunderstorms to the area late Tue into Wed. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation will not be needed through tonight.

COUNTIES UNTIL 115 PM EDT...
At 1246 PM EDT...a strong thunderstorm was near Smithville, or 10
miles south of Americus...moving northeast at 35 mph.
HAZARD...40 to 50 mph wind...frequent cloud to ground lightning
and heavy rain.
IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
light...unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.
Some locations in the path of this storm include
Americus, Leslie, De Soto, Desoto, Sumter, Lamar, Croxton Crossroads,
New Era, Flint River Wma, Huntington, Pennington, Drayton, Maddox and
Methvins.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear
thunder...you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Motorists
should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of control due to
hydroplaning.
