Very little change to the forecast for the next few days reflected
in this forecast package. Water vapor imagery indicates the very
potent mid/upper level trough ejecting northeastward into the
Mississippi River Valley. This mid level trough will bring good mid
level ascent to the area, which will cause the already ongoing
widespread light rain to increase in coverage through the morning.
Only expecting modest amounts of rain with this system given the
lack of any real instability to create much convective development.
Expect this rain to persist across the area through the rest of the
morning hours into the afternoon as the trough pushes east. While
the bulk of the wet weather will occur during the morning hours
expect some lingering precipitation into the afternoon and perhaps
early evening, especially across central and far northern Missouri.
QPF values have been kept generally the same as previous forecasts
with exception of perhaps areas along and south of Interstate 70
where radar echoes are finally starting to fill in.

The wet pattern continues into the middle part of the week as the
next trough remains poised to dig into the western CONUS through the
day today then eject eastward into the Central Plains Tuesday
evening and overnight. This system appears to be the most potent of
this string of weather makers. Probably most impressive with this
Tue/Wed system will be the deepening surface trough which is
expected to deepen to around 995 mb as it passes generally along I-
44, just south of the forecast area. The southern track of this
surface trough likely puts a large portion of the I-70 and I-35
corridors in the area most favorable for the most precipitation from
this mid week trough. Should this system occur earlier in the winter
and/or have any arctic air with it, it would likely be a fairly
impressive winter weather maker given it's classic moderate to heavy
precipitation characteristics and track across the area. Alas, this
system does not have cold air with it, and thusly will only likely
bring periods of light to moderate rain to the forecast area. After
several somewhat disappointing troughs - with respect to
precipitation amount - this trough should have a better chance of
bringing more drought-busting moisture to the area. Of course the
exact location of the axis of heavier precipitation relies strongly
on the track of the the features, mainly the surface low. As of now
models indicate a track more favorable for moderate rain, with
perhaps an inch or so of rainfall to occur generally along the I-70
corridor. Will adjust forecast rain amounts as the track of this
system come more into focus.

Expect the bulk of that precipitation to fall through the day on
Wednesday, with a tapering off period Wednesday night into Thursday.
Thereafter, expect a dry patter to take hold for the rest of the
week and into the weekend. Southwest flow mid/upper flow returns to
the area, accompanied by an influx of moisture by early next week.
Expect chances for rain to pick up early to middle part of next week
as a result.

Ongoing light rain should continue through the rest of the morning
hours and gradually taper off through the late morning into the
early afternoon. Flight conditions will generally deteriorate

this evening and into tonight. Next round of rain starts to make
its way into the area just after the end of this 24 hour forecast
period, so expect more flight restrictions with upcoming
forecasts.
