Southern Linn County in east central Iowa... * Until 130 AM CDT * At 1030 PM CDT, the public reported street flooding in Cedar Rapids. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of around an inch are possible in the warned area. This includes Interstate 380 between mile markers 12 and 30. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. At 1124 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicates up to 3 inches of rain has fallen from north of Fairfax through Cedar Rapids to near Springville with flash flooding likely occurring. Doppler radar shows the rain has diminished to mainly light to pockets of moderate intensity. However, additional showers and thunderstorms have recently formed over southern Benton County and will likely move back across the warned area over the next 1 to 2 hours bringing additional heavy rain and further increasing the threat for flash flooding. Additional rainfall amounts of around an inch are possible in the warned area. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
