resulted in significant rises in area rivers and creeks.

.UPDATE...

Broad swath of light snow (some lingering mix at times across the
south) sustained via the extensive mid level deformation will
persist over roughly the next 4-6 hours, before rapidly waning
thereafter during the early morning period.  Temperatures proving
just warm enough to prevent a more meaningful period of accumulation
/outside of grass/ per recent observational/radar trends and check
of area roadways cams.  Most recent hi res model output centers the
peak intensity now, so no real expectation for an additional uptick
in intensity from that ongoing at the moment.  With that said, plan
to move away from the winter weather advisory early across the
thumb, electing to highlight any additional snowfall information
through SPS products should the need arise.

A period of widespread peak wind gusts of 45 to 50 mph commenced
earlier, but gust magnitude has since largely diminished below this
level. Core of strong winds just off the surface still in place until
the early morning period, so possible gusts in excess of 40 mph
remain in play, albeit at a lower frequency. In addition, marine
observations along the immediate lake Huron shoreline continue to
suggest there remains an elevated risk for higher end gusts to
impact the shoreline locations. No plans at this point to alter the
wind headlines with the evening update.

AVIATION...

Existing mid level forcing working within a firm northerly gradient
associated with slowing exiting low pressure will maintain
widespread precipitation in windy conditions through early tonight.
While predominately falling as snow, there may continue to be
intermittent shifts toward a mix as temperatures continue to hover
in the 34 to 37 degree range.  Observational trends suggest the
heaviest bursts of snow will result in IFR level visibility
restrictions.  Peak gust potential expected through 04z, where gusts
in excess of 35 knots are expected.  Snow tapers off from north to
south through the early morning period, exiting the Detroit corridor
by 08z.   Winds will only slowly decrease with time overnight as the
strongest core of winds slowly exit and the gradient eases. MVFR
stratus trailing this precipitation shield may linger just beyond
daybreak, but recent model trends point toward progressive clearing
leading to plenty of open sky for most of Friday.  Gusty northwest
winds likely persists, averaging 25 knots through the day.

For DTW...With temperatures still hovering at 36-37 degrees, ongoing
precipitation will likely maintain a mixed mode of rain/snow at
times.  There remains the potential for a minor accumulation of wet
snow /less than one inch/ should a heavier burst emerge prior to
midnight, but current temperatures may simply favor continued
melting on payment.  Winds at 340 degrees with gusts in excess of 35
knots will remain at the edge for crosswind considerations this
evening.

DISCUSSION...

Precipitation type thus far this afternoon has been highly dependent
upon intensity. The higher precip rates have led to enough cooling
to support all snow. The duration of which has only led to minor
accums on grassy surfaces thus far as boundary layer temps have
remained fairly warm. In fact, Midland and Bay counties have seen a
change over back to rain as the precip intensity has dropped off.
Strong winds thus far have been confined to locations downwind of
Saginaw Bay and across the thumb region downwind of Lake Huron.
Northeast storm force winds across Saginaw Bay resulted in shoreline
flooding across Bay county.

The upper low that was parked over south-central Lower Mi this
morning will slide across the upper Ohio Valley this evening while
secondary upper low development takes place across upstate New York.
This is disrupting the narrow axis of mid level deformation which
had set up across the western sections of the forecast area today.
The net result will be a weakening of the mid level frontal
circulation. Satellite data still shows a good moisture feed into the
ern Great Lakes north of the mid level pv feature sliding up the mid
Atlantic coast. This moisture continues to lift into the broad mid
level deformation region across Se Mi. There will also be a couple
mid level short wave features rotating around the upper low and fcst
to rotate through the area this afternoon/evening. This will sustain
precipitation through the evening, with the focus for the more
persistent precipitation occuring from the thumb region down to the
I-94 corridor. Boundary layer temps will continue to hinder
accumulations through roughly 6 PM until the sun angle gets lower.
Boundary layer cooling will then offer a better potential for some
accumulations around/shortly after midnight. One to two inches of
accumulation still look in the offing, with a little higher amounts
possible from the Irish hills up through the thumb region prior to
the forcing exiting to the east.

Outside of locals downwind from Lake Huron, wind gusts thus far have
mainly held below 40 MPH. Sfc low pressure will deepen as it lifts
into upstate New York this evening. The sfc low that was located
over wrn Lake Erie this morning will in turn continue to weaken.
There will still be an increase in the sfc gradient over Se Mi this
evening. The potential for mixing into some of the stronger winds
just above the boundary layer will increase during the evening,
aided by some subtle low level cooling post sunset. So the advisory
will remain in effect tonight for expected wind gusts around 45 MPH.
The winds have already backed more northerly. This will funnel some
of the stronger winds into the southern Lake Huron basin, suggesting
some higher gusts along the shoreline from Port Austin down to Port
Huron tonight.

Building mid level heights and confluent mid level flow will usher
in drier air on Friday. Ample sunshine and decent mixing depths will
support daytime highs back up into the 40s and low 50s, although
conditions will remain rather breezy.

The combination of the high pressure to our southeast and the
developing weather system over the north-central plains, will keep
the deep the fetch of southern air flowing northward for first few
days of the extended period. This will allow afternoon high
temperatures to overachieve, reaching the mid 60's to near 70
degrees on both Sunday and Monday. Winds will be gusty during this
time as well. Clouds roll in on Sunday ahead of the front with rain
chances spreading north to south over the CWA by early Monday morning
through Tuesday night. High pressure is on track to build over the
region again for Wednesday and Thursday and temperatures drop back
toward the seasonal norm.

MARINE...

Available observations suggest ongoing high end gales across
southern Lake Huron. There were several hours of storm force
northeast winds down Saginaw Bay earlier. These have since
diminished as the wind have back more toward the north over the bay.
There will be a tightening of the sfc gradient this evening which
will support an uptick in the winds. This is expected to result in a
few storm force wind gusts over central and southern Lake Huron.
Deepening of the sfc low over upstate New York tonight will sustain
a healthy gradient, remaining highly supportive of gale force wind
gusts into Fri morning. The best chance for storm force gusts will
be this evening. So there is a possibility that the storm warnings
will be able to be downgraded either late this evening or early Fri
morning. Winds will then steadily decrease during the day Friday as
the gradient relaxes and over lake stability increases.
