and up by Buford on I-80 this morning. Looks like those elevated
winds are going to continue most of the day with local high wind
guidance showing Craig to Casper 700mb height gradients
approaching High Wind Warning criteria (60mtrs). Decided to go
with a Blowing Snow Advisory out there for the Summit/East
foothills and the Arlington zone for today. Updates have been

Today...Wind chill temperatures are quite close to advisory criteria
and should only get colder over the next 3 to 6 hours, thus will continue
with the inherited wind chill advisory. A breezy and cold day today
with progged low and mid level gradients along with projected 700 mb
temperatures. Wind gusts at Arlington and Elk Mountain may get close
to high wind criteria this afternoon based on the Craig to Casper 700
mb height gradients, however, we believe this will be a borderline
event and may not last long, thus will hold off on a high wind warning
for now. Will, however, add mention of blowing snow to much of our
western counties.
Tonight...Next shortwave trough aloft and bulk of low and mid level
moisture move into our western counties, and with the proximity of
the arctic cold front to focus snowfall, will see widespread snow
develop over our western counties and mountains after midnight. With
the snow continuing into Monday night, expected QPF and the forecast
from the WPC, we believe our Snowy and Sierra Madre Ranges will see
totals of 6 to 12 inches, thus we will issue a Winter Weather Advisory
for those mountains, starting at midnight tonight.
Christmas...Will be a white Christmas for almost everyone, with either
falling snow or snow on the ground. Greatest chances for snow will
be over our Snowy and Sierra Madre Ranges, and along and near the
location of our Arctic Cold front over our central counties.
Monday night...Snow chances expected to slowly decrease, although a
chance for light snow will continue much of the night over the Snowy
and Sierra Madre Ranges and over our northern and central counties.
.LONG TERM...(Tuesday through Saturday)

00Z medium range model/ensemble solutions are in good agreement with
a mean long wave upper trough dominating the western 2/3 of the CONUS
through Friday, transitioning to near zonal flow aloft next weekend.
In terms of sensible weather, it will be breezy to windy along and
west of the Laramie Range most days, with a prolonged period of strong
gap winds possible Tuesday night through Friday as progged GFS CAG-
CPR height gradients exceed 60m and 700mb winds exceed 50kt. This
gradient will be regulated by the position of an Arctic front boundary
which is forecast to fluctuate east-west over the northeast plains
through much of the week. Precipitation chances, albeit small, will
be confined to the far northern CWA and the Snowy/Sierra Madre mountains.
High and low temperatures will also be dependent on the position of
the Arctic front, especially northeast of a Douglas to Sidney line.
