Decreasing sustained winds/gusts and increasing relative humidities
have ended the threats.

Stronger winds have stayed confined to the wind prone areas so far
and expect this to remain the case overall for the afternoon with
the gradient gradually relaxing. Current wind/red flag hilites
may be able to be dropped early if this trend materializes. Dry
and quiet conditions then expected overnight into Sunday.
Attention then turns to the snow event as a strong cold front
moves across the CWA Sunday while an upper trough/low dig
southward into Wyoming and Utah. Favorable jet dynamics and
surface upslope flow will allow for rain and snow to develop
behind the front with the area of pcpn progressing slowly across
the CWA Sunday night. Models remain in good agreement in ending
pcpn Monday morning as the upper low reaches the Co/NM border
area. Have left the Winter Storm Watch as is except trimmed it to
end at noon Monday. Heaviest snow will be Sunday night with amounts
still looking to be in a 4-7 inch range over the high plains of se
WY and up to a foot over the mtns. Laramie Valley tricky as it
should be shadowed some. Some lighter accumulations also expected
over mainly the sw part of the Panhandle. Winds still not looking
too strong but some ares of blowing snow possible.
.LONG TERM...(Monday night through Saturday)

Transient ridging in the northern stream will occur on Tuesday
before yet another deep trough begins to dig along the US west
coast. At this point most medium range guidance is digging this
trough further west than the previous systems. This puts SE
Wyoming and the NE Panhandle in deep layer SW aloft through
Thursday. With the CWA being on the anticyclonic side of the jet,
dry and seasonable conditions are expected through at least early
Friday. Model agreement breaks down towards the weekend in regards
to the evolution of secondary energy digging into the backside of
the west coast trough with the GFS carving out a closed low over
the SW US while the EC is much further north and more progressive.
Generally a trend back toward more unsettled weather expected by
next weekend.

The main concern with this forecast is timing of the low ceilings
and snowfall.
Latest water vapor loop was showing a lot of shortwave energy
moving through Montana. This shortwave is expected to continue
diving southeast today and tonight. As this shortwave moves
southeast the cold front is expected to really strengthen during
the course of the day. As a result, we will see a strong
temperature change along the front along with lower ceilings and
quick changeover to snow. We went ahead and introduced these low
IFR ceilings and the changeover to snow this evening across most
of the TAF sites except for Sidney.

Marginal Red Flag conditions will end along the Laramie Range
around 6 PM as winds begin to decrease and temperatures cool.
Fire weather concerns will then come to an end for a while as a
strong cold front moves south across the districts Sunday with
rain and snow developing behind it. Accumulating snows are
expected above about 4500 feet Sunday night into Monday with
wetting rains otherwise. Monday will be chilly then milder and
mainly dry weather is expected by the middle of next week.
