.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Thursday night)

Winds will continue to be the main weather focus across the CWA
over the next couple days though not as strong and widespread as
recent. Winds are easing very slowly this afternoon as the
pressure gradient gradually relaxes...and the expiration of the
high wind warning late this afternoon outside of the wind-prone
areas will hopefully occur. 7H winds vary in strength overnight
through Thursday as weak ripples of energy pass by in fast mid
level westerly flow but still hang around 50-60kts at times mainly
over the South Laramie Range towards northern Carbon county. This
will necessitate maintaining the high wind warning in those areas
through Wednesday...and possibly even later. Over the lower
elevations quite breezy especially in the afternoons but the high
wind threat looks low. Mainly dry through Thursday outside of the
higher mtns where some snow showers should persist through Weds.
Should see some increase in clouds later tonight into Weds as a
batch of higher level moisture now moving across Idaho advects
across the area then varying amounts of cloudiness after that.
Warmer temperatures expected Weds with continued mild temperatures
Thursday.

The main forecast concern this weekend and into early next week
will continue to be the potential for strong winds. However, did
note that the latest 12Z models have trended wind speeds lower
compared to yesterday, especially outside of the wind prone
locations. Even with this trend, will have to monitor the wind
prone locations for periods of strong winds Friday and Sunday.
Not much to talk about in terms of precipitation since the pattern
will be rather progressive in nature with rapidly moving short
wave troughs and associated cold fronts. These weak systems will
move rapidly from the Pacific NW southeast into the central and
northern plains. Models show the first cold front moving across
the region late Friday and early Saturday morning. The best
chance for some rain/snow shower activity along the front will be
east central Wyoming into western Nebraska in addition to the
mountains. Winds will mostly be downslope and dry...so the I-80
corridor may not see much precipitation at all from Rawlins
eastward to Sidney. Another cold front is expected to move into
the area late Sunday, taking a similar track as the one earlier in
the weekend. However, this front appears to stall across the high
plains and is weaker with limited precipitation coverage.
Continued to increase POP from Douglas to Chadron Nebraska between
30 to 50 percent for a good chance of rain/snow showers. Daytime
temperatures will remain mild Friday with a brief cool down on
Saturday behind the first cold front. Temperatures are expected to
rebound quickly after each frontal passage with highs returning to
the 50's and 60's by next Tuesday. Morning low temperatures will
be near or slightly above average, and around freezing in most
locations.
