.SYNOPSIS...
Weak ridging will extend from the midwest to the Ohio Valley
today. A cold front will push south across the area Thursday
morning. High pressure will build south out of Canada across the
Great Lakes region on Friday then shift to New England on
Saturday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Much of the fog and stratus from this morning has dissipated and
conditions are much improved with partly cloudy skies. Some of
the isolated showers from earlier have also dissipated, but
there is still potential for an isolated shower or two to
develop this afternoon. Now that conditions have mostly cleared,
beginning to chase temperatures as they are busting to the warm
side of things so have trended them higher, but probably could
go even warmer...

Previous discussion...
Dense fog has developed across NW Ohio overnight and a Dense
Fog Advisory has been issued through 10 AM. The fog may try to
expand another row of counties to the northeast and the Advisory
may need to be expanded. At issuance time some clouds remained
just east of the advisory which helping to limit the coverage of
the thicker fog. Fog was showing up pretty well on satellite
imagery along the I-75 corridor and Route 23 corridors and may
take some time to burn off this morning. High temperatures in
the mid to upper 70s are reasonable.

Scattered to broken cloud field expected by early afternoon with a
few showers possible, mainly in NE as some weak low level
convergence develops downwind of Lake Erie. Chances of thunder look
low with skinny CAPE and relatively warm mid-levels. Knocked
thunderstorm chances back to just a slight chance in NE Ohio for a
few hours during peak heating.

Back door type cold front arrives late tonight into Thursday
morning as low pressure moves to eastern Quebec. Although it
does look like there is a chance of showers with the front, best
chances will be focused towards Pennsylvania and lowered pops
across northern Ohio. The potential for showers will be tied to
the front with subsidence increasing quickly behind it. Given
the early frontal passage, highs will range from the upper 60s
in PA to low 70s in Ohio.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure will be building south into the area Thursday night in
the wake of the cold front. This will mean dry and cool conditions
with temperatures dropping into the upper 40s and lower 50s most
places. Inland northwest Pennsylvania could see temperatures in the
middle 40s.

Friday morning will be dry for everyone, but as we head into the
afternoon hours precipitation chances will begin to increase across
far southern areas. The remnants of Harvey will be moving northeast
into the Ohio Valley with an abundance of tropical moisture (the GFS
solution has finally caught up with what the other long range models
have been showing for days). Rain chances will spread farther north
into central and perhaps portions of northern Ohio by Friday evening
into the overnight hours (but still staying south of the lake).

As the low cuts northeast into the Ohio Valley its northward
progress will be thwarted by the strong area of high pressure over
the Central Great Lakes. This means that the best chance for
precipitation will be across the southern two-thirds of the forecast
area, with areas near the lake potentially missing out on much, if
not all, of the precipitation through at least Saturday morning. The
high will be forced off to the east Saturday afternoon as an upper
level trough approaches from the northwest. This may allow a brief
window for precipitation to make it farther north to the lake, but
this will depend on just how fast the high moves off to the east.
Have gone with just slight chance to chance PoPs across far northern
Ohio at this time. Precipitation will taper off from west to east
Saturday night.

Highs will be stuck in the middle 60s Friday with temperatures
rebounding a bit to the lower 70s by Saturday afternoon. Friday
night will be another cool one with temperatures generally in the
lower 50s. Saturday night lows will rebound into the middle and
upper 50s.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
We could see a few lingering showers across far northeast Ohio into
northwest Pennsylvania Sunday, but everyone may dry out by the
afternoon. High pressure will slide east across the Tennessee Valley
Sunday night and this should help to keep everyone dry. Can't
entirely rule out an isolated shower across northwest Ohio and on
the lake as a broad trough approaches the region, but only have
minimal PoPs in the forecast at this time.

Confidence in the forecast for Monday and beyond remains low at this
time. There is high confidence that a large trough will move across
the Great Lakes sometime early next week, but the exact timing of
this feature (and its associated surface features) are still in
question.

The ECMWF is significantly faster than the GFS and brings a cold
front through the area late Monday into Monday night. The GFS does
not bring the cold front through until Tuesday afternoon. There will
be precipitation with this front whenever it affects the area. The
large trough looks like it may linger over the Great Lakes region
through at least Wednesday with on and off chances of rain.

Temperatures will be near normal Sunday and Monday before falling
back below normal for the remainder of the long term.

.AVIATION /18Z Wednesday THROUGH Monday/...
Dense fog and stratus that impacted northwest and north central
Ohio this morning has mostly dissipated and lifted but some
lingering MVFR clouds hang around KFDY and KMFD. Otherwise, a
growing cumulus field this afternoon across northeast Ohio and
northwest PA will continue to develop and push east. Some of the
more robust cu could certainly turn into an isolated shower for
KCAK or KYNG but coverage is extremely limited. Any rain that
develops would be before 00z.

The overnight period will have a variety of impacts across the
terminals as a cold front approaches from the north. Out west
for KTOL and KFDY and perhaps KMFD, the front itself should have
minimal impacts in terms of weather as the rain will be further
east. The night will start out fairly clear but a moist airmass
will allow for fog to develop again then as the front approaches MVFR
to perhaps IFR cloud cover will move in. Winds will shift around
to the north to northeast with the frontal passage. For KCLE and
east, the front will move in overnight bringing MVFR to IFR
cloud cover; however, there could be some additional impacts
with rain moving in as well. Only had enough confidence to
mention a VCSH at KERI for the moment but that could expand to
KCLE, KCAK, and KYNG. Winds at these terminals will shift around
to the north then to the northeast and gusts behind the front
will be stronger up to 20-25 knots after daybreak on Thursday.

OUTLOOK...Non-VFR conditions possible through Thursday in
scattered showers. Patchy morning fog for inland sites also
possible through Thursday.

.MARINE...
Light winds will continue through today before increasing out of the
northwest behind a cold front later tonight. Winds will turn out of
the north by Thursday morning and the northeast by Thursday
afternoon. Expect sustained winds of 15 to 20 knots from Thursday
morning right on through Friday morning. A Small Craft Advisory will
be needed. Northeast winds will continue through Friday, and while
wind speeds may not require a Small Craft Advisory, waves may still
be around 4 feet.

With the lengthy amount of time the winds will be out of the
northeast, water levels will rise in the Western Basin and may
approach critical levels.

Winds turn out of the east Friday night and the southeast by
Saturday afternoon with winds dying down to around 10 knots by
Saturday afternoon. Southwest flow briefly returns for Saturday
night before veering to the west by Sunday.

...Patchy Dense Fog to Linger Through Noon...

Areas of dense fog across northwest and north central Ohio have
begun to dissipate and lift through the late morning hours.
However, some patchy dense fog still lingers in these areas.
Isolated areas of fog with visibilities below a mile will remain
through about Noon today. Use caution while driving through foggy
area. Remember that if driving, slow down, use your headlights,
and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.
