Update...
Cold air is hanging tuff across northern Aroostook southwest
through the upper Penobscot Valley where temperatures are still
holding in the mid to upper teens. However, further west,
temperatures have risen to near 30 degrees near the ME/QB border
and into the mid to upper 30s to lower 40s across downeast. Other
than lowering high temperatures slightly across northern
Aroostook, only minor changes to sky/pop grids for the remainder
of the afternoon.
High pressure will then build in from the west later tonight.

S/wv energy crossing the northern Prairie Provinces of Canada
this morning wl eject acrs the Upper Midwest today and tonight
inducing cyclogenesis off of the Mid-Atlantic by the start of the
short term pd. 00z guidance is coming into agreement with eventual
track of the coastal low altho GFS conts to be fastest with mvmnt.
Expect snow to move into Downeast btwn 12z and 15z Thur,
potentially hvy drg the aftn hours for coastal and interior
Downeast zones. 00z EC and CMC bring H7 low btwn Cape Cod and
Halifax 00z Fri while NAM/GFS keep it an open wv bfr "closing" it
off ovr the Gulf of St. Lawrence by 06z.
Given the strong omega in the snow growth layer along the immediate
coast being shown for Thur aftn hv opted to issue Winter Storm Watch
for all of Hancock County and coastal/interior Washington County in
collab with GYX. Bangor region is the wild card and hv decided to
leave them out, tho a shift in the track to the nw may easily put
them in the hvy snowband. Too much uncertainty at this time and feel
more confident along the coast.
Snow wl taper off by 06z Fri as lopres pulls into the Maritimes. May
see orographic snow showers in cyclonic flow for Fri with skies bcmg
moclr at night as high pressure builds east. Excellent rad'l cooling
expected on Fri night and cannot rule out mins arnd -25F for cooler
locales in the North Woods.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Active wx pattern for the extndd as wk s/wvs rotate thru the
northeast. First wv wl mv thru on Sat/Sat night with area of snow
affecting southern half of CWA. This wl be a quick mvg system with
just an inch or two expected. Models differ significantly on next
potential storm early in the week. Prior runs of GFS/EC fm last
night indicated a coastal low on Monday. 00z EC brings system up to
our west with potential for mixed pcpn Sun night into Mon. 00z CMC
bringing a weak coastal low into the Gulf of Maine Sun/Sun night
while 00z GFS brings coastal well south of the Gulf on Monday. For
now hv sided with Superblend and likely pops for Sun night with just
a general ra/sn mix right along the coast due to extreme amnt of
uncertainty.

NEAR TERM: Expect IFR conditions into early Afternoon then VFR
conditions later this afternoon and tonight.
SHORT TERM: VFR early Thur morning for southern terminals becoming
IFR in light-moderate sn by mid-morning through the evening for
BHB and possible BGR. Becoming MVFR/IFR in the aftn for northern
sites in -sn. VFR Fri and Friday night under high pressure.
Confidence is very low for the weekend with MVFR or IFR possible.

Update 5:55 am: Have lower gale to SCA based on buoy observations.
NEAR TERM: For sustained winds have used the GFS. Expect winds to
fall below gale later this morning. For Waves: Currently waves
have built to around 10 feet/8 seconds. Fetch area appears to be
confined to the Gulf of Maine and with wave period around 8
seconds, wave speed is now equal to sustained wind speed so do not
expect much more of an increase in significant wave height. Latest
Near Shore Wave Model also indicated wave heights now topping off,
however with fetch distance limited wave heights should fall below
8 feet by late tonight. A new northeasterly wind wave will develop
early Thursday as a new low rapidly develops off the New Jersey
Coast.
SHORT TERM: SCA conditions expected Thur morning with gales during
the afternoon as strong low pressure moves south of the waters.
Gales likely to continue through the day on Friday.
