of deg F across the region based on the trends seen from midday
sfc obs. Fcst aftn cld cvr and PoPs remain the same.
Orgnl Disc: Intense low pressure will remain over the Maritimes
Today into Monday. This system will produce some light snow
today over the far north and continue to import a very cold air
mass into the region. Wind chill advisories and warnings will be
needed today and tonight due to the winds combining with the
extremely cold temperatures. Will use snow ratio for snow
amounts in the north.

Same old song and dance for the short term pd as H5 trof has taken
up residence acrs the ern half of the nation. H9 temps running 1-2
standard deviations blo normal. 1000-500mb thicknesses through Tue
wl be blo 500dm with arctic air continuing to move in. Unfortunately
pressure gradient remains strong into Tue bfr ridge axis tries to
build in drg the evng prompting wind chills to rmn at advisory
levels in the morning and evening hours, possibly appchg warning
levels overnight.
Aftn highs on Mon and Tue wl be hard-pressed to climb to 0F north of
the Katahdin Region and near 10F along the Downeast coast. Lows on
Mon night wl be well below zero CWA-wide with minus teens and minus
20s fairly common across the north. If ridge axis can build in
faster than currently being advertised may need to drop min Tue
morning as skis clear and winds decouple.

Ridge axis builds in Tue night with winds backing to the south by
Wed mrng. Sfc low pres wl be heading twd the northeast on Wed but

this may be at play for the area by late in the week. Latest GFS has
trended east while EC and CMC have trended west over the past couple
