.SYNOPSIS...
Summer heat and humidity continue today along with another round of
afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms. A few strong storms
are possible especially across western portions of Massachusetts and
Connecticut where gusty winds and torrential downpours are possible.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms continue tonight as a
cold front moves across the area. Behind the front Sunday, remaining
very warm but dry weather and less humid. A secondary cold
front/surface trough sweeps across the area Monday and may be
accompanied by a few afternoon showers and thunderstorms, but by no
means a washout. High pressure builds into the area Tuesday and
Wednesday of next week, providing seasonably warm temperatures and
comfortable humidity.

4 AM Update...

*** A few severe thunderstorms possible 4 pm - 10 pm across western
MA/CT with strong winds & very heavy rainfall ***

Warm sector airmass remains entrenched across southern New England
early this morning with dew pts 65-70. This airmass is accompanied
by some low clouds and patchy fog across the region. However later
this morning these low clouds will lift into a sct-bkn deck of
CU/SCU giving way to partial sunshine and another very warm and
muggy day with highs 85-90 away from the south coast.

Looking downstream across DE/NJ and off the Mid Atlc coast, some
showers breaking out in response to developing H85 jet max. This may
result in a few showers later this morning across RI and southeast
MA.

However the main concern for today's weather is the convection
currently across OH/western PA-NY associated with a mid level short
wave trough. This feature will sweep northeast today and initiate
Thunderstorms across western MA/CT beginning around midday and then
slowly traversing eastward thru the afternoon. However convection
will likely weaken as it moves eastward early this afternoon as mid
level dry air (decreasing K indices) advects northward across
eastern CT/RI and eastern MA 15z-18z.

The strongest storms will likely occur between 4 pm - 10 pm across
western MA/CT and then weaken as convection moves eastward given
lack of height falls/cooling temps aloft. Despite dew pts near 70
today, ML capes are only on the order of 750-1500 J/KG due to
warming temps aloft as H5 temps go from -9C to -7C. Per SPC sounding
climatology this falls in the 90th percentile. Thus very warm temps
aloft will result in poor mid level lapse rates and likely be a
limiting factor for severe convection. However given 0-6 km shear
will be on the order of 30-35 kt across western MA/CT combined with
modest synoptic scale lift, this should be enough for the risk of a
few severe storms with strong winds and very heavy rainfall with
PWATs near 2 inches (about +2 standard deviations from climo).

Beach Forecast...persistent southwest/onshore winds the past few
days including today will result in rough surf and possible moderate
to strong rips for south facing ocean beaches of RI and MA.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM SUNDAY/...

Tonight...

Showers and embedded thunderstorms likely continues given weak
synoptic lift and frontal scale forcing with cold front. Main
concern this evening and overnight will be for locally heavy rain
given anomalous moisture with PWATs near 2 inches. Warm and muggy as
post frontal airmass doesn't arrive until Sunday morning.

Sunday...

Improving conditions with frontal boundary moving offshore and drier
less humid post frontal airmass overspreading the region from west
to east during the day. Dew pts fall from 70 in the morning to about
60 across the interior later in the day. Other than a few leftover
morning showers over the Cape and Nantucket, expect increasing
sunshine. Still very warm with highs 85-90.

Beach Forecast...persistent southwest/onshore winds the past few
days diminish Sunday but leftover SW swells may result in rough surf
and possible moderate to strong rips for south facing ocean beaches
of RI and MA.

Pattern Overview...

00z models and their ensembles are in good agreement with the upper
level pattern for the period. The pattern turns less amplified to
start next week. A weak wave will move through on Monday, but the
overall pattern is more zonal. Deepening low pressure in the Gulf
Alaska will help amplify the pattern by mid-week. Strong ridge over
the Rockies will result in a broad trough over the Great Lakes and
Northeast. Building ridge over the north Atlantic will stall the
trough over the Northeast into next weekend. This turns the pattern
more unsettled by Thursday and Friday for New England.

Details...

Monday into Wednesday...

Broad upper level trough remains over the region on Monday. Quick
moving shortwave will push through the flow, and may trigger a few
showers and thunderstorms on Monday. Surface boundary will move
through during the day being the focus for convection. Depending on
the exact timing of the boundary, we could see a strong storm as
shear value are near 40 kts and instability close to 1000 J/kg.
Lapse rates close to 6 C/km will also help aid in updrafts.
Something to watch in the coming days. High temps will remain in the
upper 80s until cold front moves in from the north.

Quiet weather on Tuesday and Wednesday as surface high pressure
moves in from the north. Dewpoints will remain in the 50s resulting
in less humid conditions. Seasonable temperatures for each day with
fairly light winds. Could see flat/diurnal cu develop but overall a
pleasant weather is on tap.

Thursday into Friday...

Potent Midwest shortwave will move through the flow and phase with
northern stream into New England. This wave combined with building
Bermuda high pressure will result in moist southwesterly flow as a
warm front passes through on Thursday. Heat and humidity appears to
be short lives as wave quickly pass through the flow resulting in a
cold front late Thursday into Friday.  Continue with chc pop for
this period as timing is still an issue but the overall trend is
unsettled weather.

.AVIATION /08Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

2 AM Update...

Thur 12z...

Any lingering VFR conditions will trend toward MVFR-IFR toward
sunrise in areas of fog and low clouds. Mainly dry weather
prevails. Modest SW winds of 15-20 kt with a few gusts up to 25
kt continue across southeast MA. Lighter winds elsewhere.

After 12z...

Mix of MVFR-IFR in areas of fog will lift to marginal MVFR-VFR.
However scattered showers and T-storms will develop around
midday across western MA/CT and eventually spread eastward into
RI and eastern MA as the afternoon progresses. Expecting
marginal VFR-MVFR conditions in T-storms. Strongest storms will
be over western MA/CT during the afternoon. Widespread SW winds
15-20 kt gusting up to 25 kt regionwide.

Tonight...

Mix of MVFR-VFR cigs but VSBYS lowering to IFR-MVFR in areas of
fog. Storms will weaken but scattered showers will persist.
Southwest surface winds diminish.

Sunday...

Any lingering showers and MVFR conditions over Cape Cod and the
islands will quickly move offshore with VFR and dry conditions
regionwide. WSW winds 10-15 kt.

KBOS Terminal...high confidence in trends but some uncertainty
on exact timing. Strongest storms this afternoon will likely
remain well west of Logan/s airspace.

KBDL Terminal...high confidence. T-storms develop around 16z and
continue thru the afternoon. A few severe storms over eastern NY
may enter BDL airspace this afternoon with strong winds,
frequent lightning and torrential rainfall.

Outlook /Sunday Night through Wednesday/...

Sunday night into Monday...Moderate confidence. Improving conditions
to VFR with westerly flow. A low risk for spot shower/thunderstorm
in the afternoon.

Tuesday and Wednesday...High confidence. VFR. Sea breeze potential
impacting coastal terminals.
