.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure lingers over our area overnight and moves into
the Canadian Maritimes late Tuesday. Potential TC 10 will move
northeast from the Carolinas and pass offshore to the southeast
of New England, causing breezy NE winds and possibly rain,
especially over SE MA during Tuesday night into Wednesday. Drier
air and cooler temperatures follow Wednesday night. An active
cold front will sweep across the region late Thursday into
Thursday night, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Another round of dry and cool conditions returns Friday into
next weekend. Unsettled weather with milder temperatures may
arrive late next weekend into Labor Day.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
145 AM Update...

Current forecast on track. Chilly readings out there...with
upper 40s in the lower spots of interior eastern MA and in parts
of western MA. Temperatures were in the 50s elsewhere. Mesoscale
models indicate the potential for patchy dense fog to form,
especially in northeast MA, before daybreak. If it forms, it
should dissipate shortly after sunrise. Otherwise thick high
cloudiness will continue to overspread the region from the
southwest overnight.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM WEDNESDAY/...
Tuesday...
What is forecast to become Tropical Storm Irma will likely
track near or along the coastline of North Carolina during the
day. The surface high pressure will gradually shift eastward,
becoming centered over the Canadian Maritimes towards 00Z Wed.
While our area is expected to be dry, there will be a continued
increase/thickening of cirrus clouds along with some diurnal
cumulus. Hence partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected. Will
have another day with east winds prevailing.

Between the onshore winds and increased cloud cover, temps will
likely fall somewhat short of what we saw today. Highs will
probably only top out in the upper 60s to low 70s, coolest
nearshore and across higher terrain. Northeast to east winds
gust to 20 to 25 mph near Block Island/Martha's
Vineyard/Nantucket.

Tuesday night and Wednesday...
For this timeframe we will be contending with potential TC 10,
which is anticipated to be a post tropical cyclone as it makes
its nearest pass to southern New England. 12Z model runs track
the low southeast of the 40N/70W benchmark. The NAM is the
closest to our area out of the operational models suite,
followed by GFS, then ECMWF/SREF/Canadian. The NAM and GFS are
also the deepest with the low. At this time have opted for a
model blend.

Rainfall could be approaching the south coasts of MA/RI towards
00z Wed, starting off the night with chance pops there. Then
for the overnight took chance pops for rain as far NW as BDL to
BOS, with a period of likely pops for the Cape, Martha's
Vineyard, and especially Nantucket. It is possible that there
will be a sharp gradient between where rainfall occurs and where
it remains dry, or only rains out of a mid-level cloud deck.
Cape and Islands are in the best position to receive
accumulating rainfall. Anticipate stratiform rain with no
thunder.

With the anticipated track, we have issued a Gale Watch for the
southern outer coastal waters, waters east of Cape Cod, and
Nantucket Sound. Along land, a Wind Advisory may be needed for
the Cape and Islands Tue night into Wed AM. The worser case
scenario would include possible Storm Warning criteria for
southeastern coastal waters, and High Wind Warning gusts for
Nantucket, during later Tue night into Wed. However, very low
confidence on this occurring, so holding off on the higher end
headlines at this time.

Will also be contending with beach hazards that would include
high surf and rip currents. Tides will be astronomically low
lessening the threat of coastal flooding / beach erosion.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
Overview...
Noting continued mid level long wave troughing across the NE
U.S. into eastern Canada, while high amplitude H5 ridge
continues from the east slopes of the Rockies into the NW
Territories and western Nunavut to start off this period. H5
short wave works SE with associated cold front out of central
Canada. Will see brief round of cooler temperatures late this
week into the holiday weekend with NW flow at surface and aloft
in place.

Northern stream steering pattern rather progressive as H5 ridge
moves across the region early this weekend. As such,
operational model and ensemble solutions showing increasing
solution spread so lower confidence in timing and track of
systems. May see another quick moving H5 short wave late Sun
into Labor Day, with a shot of milder air but a period of
unsettled weather.

Details...

Wednesday night...
Remnants of tropical system moves quickly S of Nova Scotia Wed
evening. Some leftover gusts up to 15-20 kt on the outer Cape
and Nantucket, but will drop off quickly as well.

Drier air quickly works into the region as high pres ridge pushes
across the region at the surface and aloft.

Thursday and Thursday night...
Flat H5 ridge moves quickly across in progressive northern
stream flow early Thursday. Noting pretty vigorous mid level
short wave in the W-NW flow aloft moving out of eastern
Ontario/Quebec into N NY state across the region. Associated
cold front will shift SE late Thu into Thu night. Not a whole
lot of moisture with this front with PWATs on order of 1.25 to
1.4 inches as it passes. Also some marginal instability and
decent mid level lapse rates as the front approaches. Noted TQ
values to about 17 for elevated convection, and K indices in the
upper 20s to about 30. With the temp differential behind the
front, suspect there will be some elevated convection that will
develop, so have mentioned thunder in the forecast as the front
moves across.

Very dry air will work in quickly behind the front Thu night,
so expect back edge of the precip to move from NW-SE. A few
showers may linger along the S coast after midnight, but should
push offshore. Much cooler air works in, so expect temps to
bottom out in the 40s to lower 50s, except lingering to between
55 and 60 along the immediate coast with gusty N-NW winds.

Friday and Saturday...
Large high pressure will build SE out of central Canada,
bringing a taste of autumn across the region during the day
Friday. Noting H85 temps drop to +3C to +6C by midday Friday, so
will be a cool day with highs running 5 to 10 degrees below
seasonal normals for the first day of September. Readings across
the higher inland terrain forecast to be in the lower-mid 60s
with some gusty NW winds.

The ridge will lie across New England early Saturday, then will
push offshore as winds will back to light W-SW during the
afternoon. Highs will rebound to the 70s across most locations.
The ridge work offshore Sat night, so will start to see high
clouds work into the region from W-E.

Sunday and Monday...
Models in general agreement with approach of warm front from
the W as associated low pres moves across. Some question how
quickly the precip will clear, so have kept mention chance for
showers through this period for now. Lower confidence due to
wide model solution spread.

.AVIATION /06Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

Short Term /through Wednesday/...

Overnight...High confidence.
VFR conditions, except local areas of IFR VSBYS in ground fog,
especially in northeast MA and in the typical prone locations.

Tuesday...Moderate confidence.
Mainly VFR during the day. However, there is a low risk for
areas of marginal MVFR cigs developing, especially along the
Cape/Islands. E wind gusts along Cape/Islands may increase to
20-25 knots.

Tuesday night and Wednesday...Moderate confidence.
Cigs lowering to MVFR, with a chance for IFR especially
Cape/Islands. Localized MVFR vsbys southeast MA/Cape/Islands
with areas of rain late Tue night into Wed.

KBOS Terminal...High confidence in TAF. Will have to watch for
possible development of fog for a few hours shortly before
daybreak, but expecting it to mainly be north and west of KBOS.

KBDL Terminal...High confidence in TAF.

Outlook /Wednesday Night through Saturday/...Moderate confidence.

Wednesday night...Mainly VFR. Leftover N wind gusts up to 20-30 kt
Wed evening across outer Cape Cod and Nantucket, should diminish by
around midnight.

Thursday...Mainly VFR. Sct SHRA/TSRA possible with local MVFR-
IFR conditions. W-SW winds with gusts up to 20 kts shifting to
NW behind passing front Thu night.

Friday and Saturday...VFR. Breezy NW winds initially with gusts to
around 20 kts Friday. Winds diminish Fri night before becoming W-SW
Sat.

.MARINE...
Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

Short Term /through Wednesday/...

Overnight and Tuesday...High confidence. High pressure will
remain nearly stationary tonight, shifting east into the
Canadian Maritimes late in the day Tuesday. This will result in
continued east to northeast winds. Expecting conditions to
remain below small craft thresholds through tonight except for
our far southwest outer- waters.

However, during Tue anticipate winds/seas to increase to SCA
thresholds for much of the southern Coastal Waters. Potential
Tropical Depression 10 would near the Carolina coast, is
forecast to develop into Tropical Storm Irma. While it still
should be near the Carolina coast on Tue, gradient in southern
New England increases enough to bring northeast wind gusts of 25
knots and Small Craft seas to much of our southern waters.

Tuesday night and Wednesday...
Potential Tropical Cyclone 10 passing southeast of the 40N/70W
benchmark brings the potential for gale force winds across the
southeast coastal waters. A Gale Watch has been issued for Tue
night- Wed for Nantucket Sound, the southern outer coastal
waters, and the coastal waters east of Cape Cod. Anticipating
seas on the outer coastal waters to build to 8 to 12 feet,
possibly higher. Worst case scenario is Storm Warnings within
the Gale Watch area with gusts 45 to 50 kt and waves building 15
to 20 feet, if the low makes a closer approach.

Outlook /Wednesday Night through Saturday/...Moderate confidence.

Wednesday night...
Expect remnants of potential tropical system moves quickly
offshore. Leftover N-NE wind gusts up to around 25 kt Wed
evening which should diminish by around midnight. Seas remain
high, up to 5-9 ft highest on the eastern outer waters, will
slowly subside but remain at or above 5 ft on the outer waters.
Good visibility.

Thursday...
Winds back to W-SW by around midday, then will shift to NW as
cold front sweeps across the waters. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms with and ahead of the front. May see gusts up to
20-25 kt as the front passes, then will linger Thu night. Seas
will remain up to 5-6 ft on the open waters. May see briefly
reduced visibility in any precipitation.

Friday and Saturday...
NW winds will remain gusty on Friday, up to 20-25 kt highest on
the eastern outer waters. Seas up to around 5 ft on the outer
waters. Winds and seas will diminish Fri night. Expect winds to
back to W-SW but remain light Sat.
