.Wind chill values will start out this morning in the -20 to -35 
range, slowly moderating to -10 to -30 by noon. Much of the area 
will see a break from the bitter wind chills this afternoon, but 
locations along and northeast of interstate 94 will see wind 
chills stay in the -20 to -30 range through the afternoon. 

As temperatures fall tonight, wind chills will once again drop 
into the -15 to -35 range tonight into Wednesday morning, 
especially across central and north-central Wisconsin.

Nebraska/southern Iowa/northern Missouri per mosaic radar. Second
shortwave trough was located over North Dakota/northwest Minnesota
and producing light snow showers over this area.

First shortwave trough is expected to track into the Ohio River
Valley today. The 24.00z GFS/NAM show decent forcing over southern
Iowa and northern Missouri...with weaker forcing and isentropic lift
over northern Iowa and southern Wisconsin. The combination of a dry
airmass over northeast Iowa/southwest Wisconsin and weak lift
this far north of the shortwave...light snow or flurries will be
possible across the far southern parts of the forecast area. Any
accumulation will be less than a half of an inch.

Focus turns to second shortwave trough/surface front tracking across
the forecast area late this afternoon into tonight. The 24.00z
GFS/NAM indicate decent forcing above 850mb in association with
the shortwave trough/surface front. Bufkit soundings show the
saturation through 700mb of the atmosphere column this evening and
tonight. Expect light snow or snow showers across much of the
forecast area. Snowfall accumulations of up to an inch will be
possible.

.LONG TERM...(Christmas Day through Saturday)

Next concern are cold temperatures filtering into the forecast
area Christmas Day into Wednesday. The 24.00z GFS/ECMWF/NAM
indicate 925mb temperatures dropping to minus 15 to minus 27
degrees celsius by 12z Tuesday. This will produce unseasonably
cold temperatures across the forecast area. High temperatures
during the period will be in the single digits below zero to the
teens and low temperatures are expected to fall into the teens
below zero to just above zero. Wind chill values will be in the 15
to 35 below range.

Main forecast concerns Wednesday night through Saturday are snow
chances through the period across the forecast area. The 24.00z
ECMWF/GFS/GEM continue to show differences in the strength of the
upper level trough over Hudson Bay/Great Lakes Region during the
period. However...the deterministic models indicate a couple of
shortwave troughs embedded in the west to northwest flow aloft to
track into the Great Lakes Region during the period. These
shortwave troughs will provide chances of snow through the period.
Confidence in timing of the shortwave troughs across the forecast
area through the period remains low...based on the differences
between the deterministic GFS/ECMWF/NAM models.

Cigs/WX/vsby: mostly vfr cigs until later this evening/overnight
when a shortwave trough slides across the region. See a period of
mvfr (potentially ifr) associated with -sn/shsn. Vsbys 1-2sm are
likely, perhaps brief 1/2sm. Going to hold with a tempo group for
when the snow is more likely - revise as trends dictate.

Models are hinting at a few hours of mvfr later this afternoon/early
evening, but not seeing much upstream to support. Will continue to
monitor.

Clouds could scatter out for a few hours Christmas morning, but the
GFS and NAM suggest a mid level deck (potentially mvfr) should
return later in the morning.

Wind: looks west/northwest through the period, with gusts developing
Monday morning. In addition, with snow showers later tonight, there
continues to be the potential for windy/gusty conditions around
any snow shower.
