Advisory. Winds have begun diminishing across portions of the
area. While some winds gusts will be in the 25-35 mph range

...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT TONIGHT...

* AREAS AFFECTED: Areas adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay from 
  Hampton Roads northward to the lower Maryland Eastern Shore, 
  and Currituck county NC.

* HAZARDS: Strong wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph.

* WINDS: Northeast to north wind of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up 
  to 50 mph until midnight.

* TIMING: Until midnight.

* IMPACTS: As a result of today's rainfall, strong wind gusts 
  may down trees and power lines in a few areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 35 mph, along with
stronger gusts, are expected. Winds this strong can make driving
difficult...especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure moves off the New England coast thsi afternoon.
Low pressure will deepen as it lifts northeast along the Mid
Atlantic coast tonight and Tuesday...before pushing out to sea
Tuesday night and Wednesday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Not much change in sfc features from yesterday with sfc hi pres
well to the NE and a frontal boundary nearly stationary along
the SE CONUS coast. Gradually spread of moisture N expected
through this afternoon...w/ PoPs increasing to 20-50% across far
srn/SE VA and NE NC toward early evening. Otherwise...partly
sunny N...mostly cloudy S. Highs 75-80F.

NE winds 20-30 mph continue along the coast. This continues the
threat for dangerous surf and high rip current risk.

Pushed Flash Flood Watch a bit inland in NE NC and added
southside Hampton Roads for possible 2-4 inches of rainfall.
Also...Added ern shore VA and Wicomico/Ocean City to High Wind
Watch (for Tue).

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Still a lot of uncertainty as to how this system evolves over
the next 24-48 hours, so did not make many changes to current
forecast. As of 5 am...low pressure was centered near 30.3
N...81 W or just NE of JAX. It was nearly stationary. Given a
progged track NE over the waters for a time today then inland
across the Carolina coastal plain tonight and Tuesday, TPC
suggests it may become tropical for a while tonight then go
extra tropical as it lifts NE across the NC coast/coastal plain
late tonight and Tuesday before exiting off the northern Outer
Banks and into the VA Capes Tuesday night. Given the uncertainty,
plan is to NOT issue any tropical headlines with this package
and keep the current non-tropical headlines in place.

Guidance still points to late tonight and Tuesday being the
wettest and windiest time fame. Based on how wet it has been
recently, the latest QPF (2-4 inches) and excessive rain
forecast (slight), went ahead and issued a flash flood watch for
the NC zones bordering the Albemarle sound (except Bertie) from
midnight tonight through Wed. Held off father north and west due
to lower QFP values/uncertainty of how west the axis of heaviest
rains will be. Also issued a high wind watch Tuesday for gusts
aoa 50 mph along the ERN VA/NE NC coasts.

Upshot, rain with elevated thunder chcs across the se (likely to
categorical pops) quickly ramp up after midnight tonight through
18Z Tue. Pops begin to ramp down late Tue afternoon across the
Piedmont but continue in the likely category along the coast.
Highs Tue in the low to mid 70s. System and associated deep
moisture pulls offshore Tuesday night with pops lingering along
the coast through the night. Lows in the 60s to near 70 SE.

Subsidence behind departing low results in a partly sunny and
dry day Wed. Highs in the upr 70s to lwr 80s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Drying WNW flow aloft Wed night into Thu w/ upper level trough
amplifying into the NE CONUS. Main moisture axis to be shunted
S of the region by Thu night/Fri w/ sfc hi pres building toward
the mid-Atlantic states into the weekend. Keeping PoPs aob 15%
through most of the extended. Highs Thu in the 80-85F...in the
u70s-around 80F Fri...around 80F Sat...and in the l-m80s Sun.
Lows Thu night in the 60s to around 70F...from the m50s NW to
m60s SE Fri night and 60-70F Sat night.

.AVIATION /18Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Mostly VFR conditions this afternoon ahead of low pressure over
the SE states. Some localized MVFR cigs mainly in showers across
the Tidewater and NE NC this afternoon. As the low moves toward
the area tonight, expect cigs to lower to MVFR as showers move
northward. Expect the heaviest showers to develop overnight and
continue into Tuesday, with the best chance for heavy showers at
ORF and ECG. Could see IFR conditions as well especially on
Tuesday in SE VA/NE NC. Lastly, with the low deepening, expect
N-NE winds to increase to 15 to 25kt with gusts to 35kt at
PHF/ORF/ECG Tue morning. Strongest winds will likely be Tue
afternoon with gusts to 45 kt possible. SBY and RIC will see
weaker winds, but still gusty to 30 kt.

Outlook: This low quickly moves out Tue night, taking any sub
VFR conditions and winds with it. Wed looks quiet with high
pressure building across the area. Increasing moisture may allow
for additional rain and sub VFR conditions Thu/Fri.

.MARINE...
Low pressure off the Southeast Coast becomes more organized
today as it hugs the coastline. Meanwhile, sfc high pressure
remains entrenched over New England. The pressure gradient
between these two features will promote further deterioration of
marine conditions with wind speeds gradually increasing from
south to north through this evening and seas building a foot or
two higher than model guidance suggests. This trend will
continue into Tuesday as the low tracks NE along the Carolina
Coast tonight and strengthens across the srn Mid Atlantic Region
on Tuesday before exiting well off the Delmarva Coast Tuesday
night into Wednesday morning. Regardless of whether the low
takes on tropical characteristics this far north, widespread
adverse/dangerous marine conditions will persist today through
Tuesday night with the worst conditions occurring Tuesday. No
change to ongoing headlines (going from SCA to Gales 400 AM
Tuesday). E-NE Winds will be 15-25 kt with gusts to 30 kt thru
early Tuesday morning...then increasing to 20-35 kt with gusts
of 40-50kt Tuesday. Maintained gale headlines at the moment
rather than converting to storm warnings for coastal waters
south of Chincoteague just in case tropical headlines end up
being necessary. Winds become north and gradually diminish from
west to east Tuesday evening... likely dropping below SCA wind
thresholds. On the other hand, seas will be a different story.
Already experiencing 8-9ft seas in srn coastal waters early this
morning with seas farther north ranging from 5-7ft. Seas will
continue to slowly build through tonight...becoming 8-9ft to
12ft Tuesday with the low pressure system passing across the
waters. Waves in the Bay will build to 5-7ft (up to 8ft possible
at the mouth). Nearshore breaking waves already 8ft from VA
Beach to Duck with nearshore waves building to 8ft this
afternoon on Atlantic beaches of Northampton County, VA. High
surf advisories have been issued for today. Remaining MD/VA
beaches are expected to experience +8ft nearshore breaking waves
after midnight tonight and additional high surf advisories will
be needed; wanted to see how seas respond today farther north.
In addition, the threat for high rip current risk continues
today through Tuesday and possibly into Wednesday.

The low shoots out to sea Wednesday with diminishing winds and
gradually subsiding seas. Nearshore seas should subside below
4ft by Wednesday night, whereas seas out near 20NM may not drop
below 5ft until Thursday afternoon.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
A strong area of high pressure centered over New England this
morning and general low pressure along the SE coast where a
stalled frontal boundary remains in place from late last week.
This overall pattern has brought a prolonged period of NE flow
with winds of 20 to 25 kt. So far the tides have shown just a
small uptick with anomalies building to around 1 ft. This
pattern will continue today with anomalies again ticking up to
around 1 to 1.25 ft. A few sites along the Western Chesapeake
Bay may approach minor flood stage with the afternoon high tide,
but most areas will stay below advisory criteria for this
cycle.

Expect the winds to begin to increase later tonight and into
Tuesday as Low pressure that is expected to form along this
stalled frontal boundary lifts NE into Eastern NC by Tuesday
afternoon. This will cause the winds to increase with anomalies
reaching 2 to 2.5 Ft in the lower Bay and 1 - 2 ft elsewhere.
Minor to moderate flooding is possible and a coastal flood watch
or warning may be issued later today for Tuesday afternoon's
high tide. The high tide early Wednesday morning may still be
high even though the wind will be switching to the NW as the
strong low heads out to sea and away from the coast.
