* LOCATION...Alaska Range passes west of the Tok Cutoff.

* WINDS...South with gusts up to 55 mph.

* TIMING...Winds will increase this afternoon and will peak in 
  the late evening. Winds will start to die down after midnight 
  tonight.

.DISCUSSION...

Models...The 00z model suite initialized well with minimal
differences noted against the 00z surface analysis. The 00z model
suite also verified well against the 06z surface analysis. Models
continue to perform well in the the short range as well as early
in the mid range with minimal spread noted among the various
model families and minimal spread from run to run. The models
continue to struggle late in the mid range and the extended range
with significant differences noted on the timing, track and
strength of the remnants of Typhoon Sanvu as it moves north near
the Kamchatka Peninsula and western Aleutians late in the weekend
and early next week. Most ensemble members continue to track the
remnants east through the Aleutians while a few members continue
to take the remnants on a more northward trajectory into the
Bering Sea. Continue to monitor.

Aloft...At 500 hpa a 512 dm low continues to park near the pole
with a trough extending south along the date line to a 529 dm low
near norton sound and a secondary 540 dm low over the western
Aleutians. The low over the western Aleutians deepens and moves
southeast to be located over Dutch Harbor Saturday morning as a
536 dm low and deepens to around 530 dm as it digs south and east
to be located near 50N and 160W in the northern Pacific Saturday
afternoon. The downstream ridge over western British Columbia and
Yukon build north and west into eastern Alaska through Sunday.

On the surface...a broad area of low pressure prevails over the
western Seward Peninsula and extending east and southeast into
the southeast interior of Alaska. A series of shortwave troughs
will continue to move north over northern Alaska which will bring
periods of light rain west and north of Fairbanks. Locations south
and east of Fairbanks will be more dry as downslope southerly
winds loose some of their moisture over the Alaska Range. There
will be enough synoptic scale lift and instability to the east and
south of Fairbanks for isolated thunderstorms and showers this
afternoon and evening. Gap winds through the Alaska Range passes
will continue as various shortwave troughs move north over the
alaska range and into the interior. Scattered shower will bring
mixed precip overnight along the coast and inland on the North
slope with snow limited to higher elevations in the Brooks Range.
Significant snow accumulations are not expected. Areas of fog are
expected along river valleys and low spots over much of the
interior as skies scatter out and valley temperatures drop this
morning. Typical cold areas and wind sheltered areas in the
interior may see scattered light frost this morning where skies
remain partly cloudy and temperatures drop into the 30s.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

A very slight chance of Thunder in the afternoon and evening to
the south and east of Fairbanks.
