.SYNOPSIS...
Aloft...
The long wave trough over the West Coast of Alaska and Eastern
Bering Sea will persist through the middle of next week then
retrograde. A long wave ridge over NW Canada and eastern Alaska
will persist through next week. Weak south flow aloft will keep
the Interior much warmer than normal through next week, while the
West Coast and North Slope will warm closer to normal over the
weekend and rise above normal next week.

850 mb temperatures range from 0C over the SE interior to -15C
over the North Slope. Warm air in the SE Interior will move
northwest today but then cool Sun and Mon as southerly chinook
flow diminishes.

Surface...
A low pressure trough from Deadhorse to Banks Island will
dissipate tonight. There will be areas of flurries and fog along
this trough. This will also cause west winds along the area from
Prudhoe Bay east through tonight.

A 1013 mb high north of Barrow will build slowly through Mon.
This will cause light NE winds and patchy fog over the western
Arctic Coast through Mon.

An Arctic Front stretching from Old Crow to Galena to Marshall
will persist. There are mid level clouds and flurries along this
feature, along with NW winds 10 kt with local gusts 20 kt.

An Occluded front stretching from Bethel to Tanana to Eagle will
move NW over the Arctic Front by this afternoon and then persist
into Mon. There is now snow in SW Alaska with this front over
zones 214 and 215 that will persist into Sun. Expect several
inches accumulation. Mixed rain and snow is possible in that area
today. Flurries along the remainder of this front will develop
into a chance of snow today and more defined snow tonight and Sun.
Expect 1 to 2 inches tonight through Mon along this front.

Weak chinook flow south of the occluded front will keep conditions
dry with highs in the 40s over the SE Interior again today with
near 50 possible then cooling on Sun. Will see 30s in the Western
and Northern Interior today and Sunday, while the West Coast and
North Slope will see a slow warming over the next few days.

A second occluded front in the Gulf of Alaska will move over the
Alaska Range tonight...to Denali to Eagle by 4pm Sun...and then
merging with the first occluded front Mon. This will bring a
chance of snow to the central Interior Sun and to the Northern and
Western Interior Sun into Mon. Southeast of Eielson AFB will be
mostly dry with very weak downslope flow, but Fairbanks will have
a chance of snow Sun. Temperatures will cool Sun with this front.

Gap flow winds of 30g40 mph through Alaska Range passes will blow
following this first occluded front and again Sun following the
second occluded front.

.DISCUSSION...
Models initialize well at 500 mb and similar solutions through
4am Sun and then NAM diverges from GFS and ECMF solutions with
short wave moving north over the Interior. NAM also does not show
any precipitation over zones Favor the GFS solution through Mon
as a result. Models keep similar long wave solutions next week
but start to diverge on short waves features from Tue on next week
so will use the ensemble solutions from Tue on next week.
