.DISCUSSION...
Models very similar through the weekend. Upper level ridge
building in over the West Coast and persisting through the
weekend. Center of high will be over the Seward Peninsula.

Short wave trough with associated surface low about 150 nm north
of Point Lay is moving eastward across the Arctic Coast. Strong
associated thermal gradient along with a tight pressure gradient
will multiply the effects of this synoptic feature. This tightly
wound low will likely produce blizzard conditions along the entire
Arctic Coast beginning from the west this afternoon and pushing
eastward late tonight.

Blizzard conditions in the Eastern Arctic near Kaktovik could be
severe. Expect winds to possibly gut in excess of 70 mph.
Conditions will gradually improve by Friday morning as winds
diminish.

As the cold front pushes rapidly through the state from west to
east, a couple of inches of snow will accompany the front with
gusty winds associated with the moderately strong temperature
gradient. The Eastern Alaska Range area could be an area with very
poor conditions with tightly packed thermal and pressure
gradients. Most of the Interior Alaska areas will likely see windy
conditions across the area with the frontal movement.

Conditions throughout the state will be short lived as the front
is moving rapidly and the upper high is building in just as fast
over the West Coast.

Cold temperatures will settle in over at least the eastern half
of the state through Friday after the passage of the front. Then
temperatures will warm significantly aloft beginning Saturday. An
arctic plunge from the north is advertised to drop in from the
northwest by Wednesday thereby dropping the temperatures
significantly.
