expected to develop again today around in the same area as yesterday
around 10 am and will continue through 10 pm tonight. Red Flag
conditions are not forecast west of the Delta River.

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has cancelled the Red
Flag Warning.

Humidities in windy areas have now risen above 25 percent and 
Red Flag conditions have now ended. Strong winds along the 
Richardson Highway from Donnelly Dome to Delta Junction 
will continue through midnight tonight.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.DISCUSSION...
Aloft: The 06/12Z 500 mb pattern showed main feature as large 513
dm low centered over the central Aleutians, or about 100 miles
northwest of Nikolski. Short wave ridging was seen east of this
low with the ridge axis running N-S along the 142W meridian in
the north Pacific and Gulf of Alaska, stretching northwestward
across McGrath, Unalakleet and Nome. Elongated/sharp troughing was
located over the SE Alaska and BC coast. Weak upper troughing was
seen over NW Alaska with a 533 dm low centered 70 miles north of
Kiana. Upper low remained over eastern Siberia with a 522 dm low
centered over about 200 miles west of Wrangel Island. A 523 dm low
was over the northern Canadian Archipelago with short wave ridging
between these two systems over the Beaufort Sea.

Surface: The main feature is a 983 mb low stacked beneath large
Aleutian Islands upper low around 100 miles west of Nikolski, with
troughing extending eastward into the western Gulf of Alaska. A
thermal trough also extends to the northeast of this low and is
running along the north side of the Alaska Range.

The 06/12Z deterministic guidance remained in fair to good
agreement on the upper level and surface pattern through the
remainder of the weekend and through much of next week. The upper
low in the central Aleutians will gradually drift east into the
north Pacific/southern Gulf of Alaska by early Tuesday weakening
to around 533 dm. The short wave trough and upper low over
northwest Alaska will continue to pull off to the northeast into
the eastern Beaufort Sea tonight, allowing ridging to further
expand into the mainland through Sunday. A weak short wave will
rotate around the upper low west of Wrangel Island across the
Chukchi Sea on Sunday as well, with a second short wave
approaching the northwest coast Monday evening to move across the
Arctic Coast around midweek. Upper level ridging will begin to
build in behind this second wave over the Chukchi Sea Wednesday
and Wednesday night.

At the surface, surface low over the Aleutians will follow under
upper low into the northeast Pacific, to be located around 350
miles south of Kodiak by early Tuesday morning. Weak thermal
troughing will persist across the central and eastern Interior
through at least Tuesday.

North Slope: Persistent low clouds/IFR ceilings and periods of fog
look to persist into at least Monday under persistent ENE low
level flow. Some flurries will mix in from time to time as well.
Short wave trough moving across the Arctic Coast late Tuesday into
Wednesday may disrupt the low level easterly flow, which may
bring improving ceilings and visibilities. Best confidence of this
happening would be mainly from Barrow west associated with low
level drying with building high pressure ridge over the Chukchi
Sea. Some isolated to scattered rain or snow showers will remain
possible for the eastern Brooks Range this evening as upper low in
NW Alaska departs off to the northeast.

West Coast: Weak surface trough extending to the north of upper
low in Aleutians will bring rain and snow showers over the Bering
Sea and western Seward Peninsula through Sunday, with little snow
accumulation expected. Fair weather is then expected for the west
coast and St Lawrence island by Monday as high pressure builds in
over the Bering Sea.

Interior Alaska: Ridging aloft will bring fair weather and
seasonably warm temperatures with highs well into the 60s to near
70. Thermal trough north of the Alaska Range will promote gusty
gap flow between Alaska Range passes through Sunday before trough
weakens and shifts over the Fortymile Country on Monday. Upper
level ridging will shift east into the Yukon Sunday night.
Slightly lower heights will bring a bit cooler temperatures for
Monday into Tuesday, along with an increased chance of showers for
Tuesday and Wednesday as upper low moves into the Gulf of Alaska,
and weak waves/disturbances rotate into the interior from the
east. A stray thunderstorm or two is possible Monday and Tuesday
afternoon/evening as lapse rates steepen over the interior, but
chance looks low enough to keep it out of the forecast for now.

.FIRE WEATHER...Marginal Red Flag conditions continue for the exit
regions of the Alaska Range passes (zones 223 and 226) this
afternoon, with current RH readings as of 1 pm ranging from the
upper teens to middle 20s and sustained winds in Isabel pass
between 15 to 25 mph, with one location brushing around 30 mph at
times. Similar conditions are expected tomorrow in terms of min RH
readings and winds through the passes in zone 223 and 226.
Elsewhere much lighter winds are expected with min RH readings in
the southern interior in the 20s, with min RH readings in the
teens for zones 223 and 224. Slightly cooler and more moist
conditions are expected Monday and Tuesday, along with low chances
of thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening along and south
of the Yukon River.

.HYDROLOGY...Ridging aloft and higher freezing levels will promote
snowmelt from the Yukon Uplands and higher terrain in the
Fortymile Country to the Alaska Range for the remainder of this
weekend into early next week. This will raise water levels on the
Yukon and advance the breakup front on the Yukon River. The Yukon
tributaries will also see raising water levels and cause ice to
start flowing, if this has not occurred already. Breakup front on
the Yukon River has reached the confluence of the Kandik River as
of 2 PM Friday and will likely move through Circle in the next
day or two. Will have to watch for ice flows creating jams during
this warmer stretch of weather, as one has formed around 23 miles
upstream of Eagle with water levels raising 8 feet behind the jam
as of 1 PM on Saturday.
