.DISCUSSION...Southerly winds around the Alaska Range are 
expected to continue through Tuesday. Winds will weaken slightly 
in late afternoon but increase again early Tuesday. Strongest winds 
will be through mountain passes. Low RH values coupled with winds 
will create Red Flag conditions in zones 223 and 226 along the 
Richardson Highway from Black Rapids to Delta Junction.

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has cancelled the Red
Flag Warning.

Relative Humidity values will remain between 20 and 35 percent
into the early evening, but winds have diminished and will
continue to diminish through the evening.

.DISCUSSION...
Overall, the 00z models initialize the current synoptic situation
well and are in good agreement overall with the major features
out through Tuesday afternoon. Thereafter into Thursday, there are
some differences in the placement and intensity of features (more
on that below). Aloft, at 500 mb a 518 dam low is currently
situated near Unalaska. This low will push into the gulf of Alaska
by Tuesday afternoon and will remain through late Thursday before
pushing eastward starting Friday as ridging builds in behind it.
At the surface, a 993 mb low currently 125 nm north of Unalaska
will slowly push southeast today before weakening early Tuesday. A
strong low will push northward into the Gulf of Alaska Tuesday
into Wednesday. A 1030 mb area of high pressure in the Beaufort
Sea currently near 77N 130W will drift slowly west through
Wednesday. A lee side trough is currently situated just north of
the Alaska Range, this trough will persist through Tuesday.

Central and Eastern Interior: The main issue today will be strong
southerly winds near Alaska Range passes, particularly from Delta
Junction south along the Richardson Highway where gusts up to 45
mph are expected. Current thinking is that the strongest winds
will be in the morning hours and will taper off some in the
afternoon. We currently expect that winds will remain under
advisory criteria; however we will have to keep an eye on this.
Winds will pick up again early Tuesday morning; however, winds on
Tuesday will be less than Monday. Late Tuesday winds will shift to
become northeasterly as a strong low moves northward in the Gulf
of Alaska. With the low moving northward the pressure gradient
will tighten and wind gusts of around 25 mph are possible across
much of the interior, particularly in the higher terrain and
channeled areas prone to gusty northeasterly winds. An occluded
front associated with this low will bring some decent
precipitation to the southeastern Interior on Wednesday. For most
locations this precipitation will fall as rain; however, there
will be some snow in the higher elevations. Right now there are
some differences between the models in terms of QPF, with the GFS
having the highest values. Rainfall over snow covered could create
some issues with runoff, so we will need to monitor this closely
over the next few days.

West Coast and Western Interior: Some isolated to scattered
afternoon and evening showers today and Tuesday, primarily south
of the Yukon River. Otherwise, relatively quiet weather is
expected over the next few days.

North Slope and Brooks Range: Fog and low clouds will persist over
the next few days.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Gusty southerly winds are expected today and Tuesday in Alaska
Range passes. The sustained winds of around 25 mph with gusts up
to 40 mph. Minimum relative humidity values today and Tuesday will
range from 20 to 30 percent from just north of the Alaska Range
into the Tanana Valley. Current thinking for today is that the
strongest winds will be in the morning hours and will decrease a
bit in the afternoon when the relative humidity values are the
lowest. In spite of this, we may near red flag conditions today
along the Richardson Highway corridor south of Delta Junction.
This will be something that will need to be monitored.
