Chukchi Sea to Point Hope by Tue afternoon at 1003 mb and over the
Arctic Plain by Wed morning at 1014 mb. The associated weather
front will move inland this morning. A weak ridge of high pressure
will move E across the area Tue evening. A 980 mb low will move
into the SW Bering Sea Tue evening and to the Gulf of Anadyr by
Thu morning at 959 mb.

By Thursday evening this low will move into the Gulf of Anadyr. 
Thereafter, this low will move westward into Russia. A front 
associated with this low move northward across the Bering Sea and

A strong 953 mb low currently 550 NM W of St Matthew Island will 
move north to Cape Navarin as 957 mb low Thursday afternoon. By 
Friday afternoon the low will move north to Anadyr and weaken to 
975 mb. Thereafter, this low will weaken near the Gulf of Anadyr. 
A front associated with this low move northward across the Bering 
Sea and the West Coast of Alaska tonight into tomorrow.

.DISCUSSION...

Models...Solutions continue to improve and are now in good
agreement through around 84 hours before they start diverging in
position and strength of features moving across the Bering Sea.
Over the Arctic there is better agreement with a less active
pattern. In the extended periods, the models are coming together
slowly but still have differences in position and strength of the
major features. Surface solutions initialized well against the
08/06Z surface analysis. For the short term, the NAM is handling
the downslope a bit better this morning, but as the day goes on a
blend of the solutions will handle the precipitation in all areas.
Will use a equal blend for the winds, for temperatures will nudge
to bias corrected guidance.

Aloft...At 500 hpa...Systems continue to rapidly propagate across
the Bering Sea and mainland Alaska. A less active pattern over
the Arctic. A 528 dam low that was over King Salmon last evening
has moved over Prince William Sound with weak troughing extending
to the northwest to a 528 dam low over Kotzebue and a 527 dam low
over the Chukchi Sea. As the low over Prince William Sound moves
east to Yakutat this evening, a 529 dam low will develop over the
Middle Tanana Valley and move east over the yukon Territory as it
weakens. Ridging over the Central Bering Sea this morning will
move to the Eastern Bering Sea, Bering Strait, and Chukchi Sea
this evening, and over Bristol Bay, the West Coast, and Kotzebue
Sound overnight with a weak ridge axis extending to the northeast
over the Upper Yukon Flats. 540 dam heights will push north of
Norton Sound tonight. A 522 dam low over the western Bering Sea
will move northeast to the Gulf of Anadyr by Monday morning at 518
dam. Ridging will continue to rotate east then southeast Monday
into Tuesday and the low over the Gulf of Anadyr will move over
the Chukchi Sea. Fast zonal flow will develop across the Bering
Sea and the state Monday morning through Wednesday morning when
ridging will move to the West Coast and build north over the
Chukchi Sea. At 850 hpa...Some areas in the southeast interior
will have temperatures around zero this morning that will be
cooling below zero by evening. The -10 isotherm will remain over
the Arctic Plain and north slopes of the Brooks Range.

Surface...Stacked 988 mb low has moved to Prince William Sound
this morning with weak leeside troughing developing in the
interior. The primary low will move southeast along the southeast
Panhandle Coast as it weakens. A 1009 mb low persists over
Kotzebue Sound but will weaken and dissipate this evening. A ridge
of high pressure extends from the north Pacific to the Pribilofs
to the Gulf of Anadyr and will move east to lie from Unimak Island
to Nome to Wrangel Island. By Monday morning it will lie from
Chignik to Denali to Arctic Village with a ridge of high pressure
developing over the Upper Tanana Valley. The ridge will continue
to rotate to the southeast and flatten out over northern Alaska. A
1000 mb low has moved off the Kamchatka Peninsula into the
western Bering Sea and pressure has fallen to 983 mb this morning.
The low continues moving northeast today and it will move to the
Gulf of Anadyr by Monday morning at 980 mb. The associated frontal
system will move over the West Coast after midnight tonight and
into the Western Interior Tuesday morning. A long fetch of
moderately strong southwesterlies will develop over the northern
Bering Sea bringing increased wave action and a storm surge of 2
to 5 feet to areas north of Nunivak Island. The low over Prince
William Sound is spreading precipitation north this morning over
the Alaska Range and into the interior. Expect precipitation to
start off as rain in most locations, then mix with snow later this
evening as areas cool rapidly, then all snow overnight into
Monday before it tapers off. Mountain locations may see all snow
depending on elevation.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...Onshore or along shore flow, and
upslope flow in the mountains, today will keep the clouds over the
area with some flurries or light snow. No significant
accumulations expected. Patchy fog will reduce visibility to
around 1 mile at times. Winds 5 to 15 mph for most locations.
Temperatures in the low 30s will fall into the 20s overnight with
coldest temperatures in the plains.

West Coast and Western Interior...Going to be pretty active this
week as a couple moderately strong weather systems move through
the area. A weak low over Kotzebue sound this morning is spreading
some light rain/snow showers over the area, but will weaken today
and dissipate this evening. A weather front will move to the
coast tonight spreading rain/snow up the coast, snow north of the
Seward Peninsula, and snow into the Interior by Monday morning.
Rainfall amounts will range from around 0.25 in Kotzebue Sound to
0.75 inch in the lower Yukon Delta. Winds northwest today to 10
mph snapping around to southeast tonight in advance of the front
to 10 to 30 mph, then south to southwest behind the front at 10 to
25 mph with stronger winds over the water to 30 mph.

Central and Eastern Interior...Cloudy with rain developing over
most areas south of the Yukon River. Downslope near the Alaska
Range will limit precipitation this morning, but it will fill in
this afternoon and evening as the low moves east and southeast and
easterly flow continues to push moisture north into the Central
and Eastern Interior. Rain will mix with snow overnight or become
all snow after midnight as cold air is pulled into the area from
the northwest. Snowfall will Range from a trace to in excess of 10
inches at higher elevations in the Alaska Range. Around Fairbanks
snowfall tonight and Monday will be light and will melt off
pretty rapidly. Another round of snow expected Monday night into
Tuesday has the potential to spread a couple inches of snow to
the Fairbanks and vicinity with the heaviest snowfall in the hills
to the north and east. Winds northeast for most areas to 10 mph,
the exception is near the Alaska Range where downslope south winds
to 40 mph will continue into the afternoon before they diminish.

Extended forecast for days 4 to 7...Models solutions continue to
be very confused, but they are a bit more similar today than in
previous solutions. The GFS and ECMWF are definitely in better
agreement in the latest solutions. Still looking at stormy
conditions over the West Coast and Bering Strait through the week.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...Another strong low will
move into the Bering Sea Wednesday night and Thursday that could
potentially bring another round of minor Coastal Flooding and High
Surf to the West Coast. At this time the models are very
conflicted on the evolution of the low, its location, and strength
so will need to watch the next couple model runs before we can
start focusing on potentially impacted areas.
