.DISCUSSION...

Models very similar through the weekend. Upper level ridge
building in over the West Coast and persisting through the
weekend. Center of high will be over the Seward Peninsula.

Short wave trough with associated surface low about 150 nm north
of Barrow is moving eastward across the Arctic Coast. Strong
associated thermal gradient along with a tight pressure gradient
will multiply the effects of this synoptic feature. Blizzard
warnings still in effect across the north slope today. Blizzard
conditions in the Eastern Arctic near Kaktovik could be extreme.
Expect winds to possibly gust in excess of 70 mph. Conditions
will gradually improve by Friday morning as winds diminish.

Cold front pushing across the central interior this morning is
bringing a period of snow and blowing snow this morning into
the afternoon. Gusty winds associated with the moderately strong
temperature gradient will produce blowing snow and low visibility
as well. Winter weather advisories are out for zones 220 222 223
224 and 226. Conditions will improve this evening.

Cold temperatures will settle in over at least the eastern half
of the state through Friday after the passage of the front.
Temperatures will drop to around 20 below tonight and 30 below on
friday. Temperatures will remain cold through the weekend
with the warmest air over the west coast.
