.ANALYSIS AND UPPER LEVELS...
The longwave trough extends from the Arctic through mainland
Alaska and out over the Gulf. The main low embedded in the trough
is over the Gulf bringing rain to the north Gulf coast. Out west
high pressure has built in over the Western Aleutians and western
Bering.

The models are in decent agreement through the mid term. Hi-res
guidance was chosen.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA (Days 1 and 2)...
A front will stall along the Gulf coast today as the upper low
slides east across the Gulf. Most of the rain is expected along
the coast, with just some isolated showers inland with an upper
level ridge north of the low. On Saturday the upper low will drift
north into the northeast Gulf. This will bring a gradual increase
in moisture and showers to inland areas even as the associated
surface low continues to weaken.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHWEST ALASKA (Days 1 and 2)...

It looks like scattered showers will continue to remain in the
forecast as a series of upper level disturbances from the arctic
ride down the eastern periphery of the upper level trough over the
Alaska mainland. An isolated thunderstorm or two will be possible
near the Alaska Range as a decent short wave moves through the
area but limited diurnal heating will make it hard for surface
based instability to develop. Some gusty winds will continue to be
seen across the Alaska Peninsula through Sunday morning as some
cold air accompanies some decent pressure rises on the back side
of the low pressure system that just moved into the Gulf of Alaska.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST BERING SEA/ALEUTIANS (Days 1 and 2)...

High pressure will continue to build over the Bering Sea through
Saturday. This high pressure will begin to drift south into the
North Pacific on Sunday as the next low pressure system and
frontal boundary begin to approach the western Aleutians. Fog
remains the main forecast concern with widespread fog and low
stratus likely to develop underneath the ridge axis.

.LONG TERM FORECAST (Days 3 through 7)...
The upper level longwave trough remains over the central interior
of Alaska extending southward through the Gulf into the North
Pacific Ocean. While a ridge of high pressure is located over the
Bering, and looks to move eastward as it becomes positively
tilted stretching into the Gulf of Alaska. As this high pressure
exits the region, it allows a low to track just south of the
Kamchatka Peninsula into the Western Aleutians by Sunday.
Therefore, look for the aforementioned low pressure to track
northward as it transitions into a broad area of low pressure in
the northern Bering by Friday. This will produce predominantly
southwesterly flow ahead of this system through the rest of the
Bering, and the Southwest/Southcentral Alaska regions through next
week. Look for continued cooler temperatures accompanied by wet
conditions with the southwesterly flow through next week.
Meanwhile, WPC used a blend of the GFS, and the (GEFS) Global
Ensemble Forecast System mean with the ECMWF ensemble mean model
through the mid to long range forecast time-frame. The overall
forecast confidence is average due to the models coming into
better agreement with the different synoptic features.
