Bogoslof Volcano, located 53 nm NW of Dutch Harbor, is currently 
active.

A 985 mb low 150 nm Southeast of Sand Point slips to 300 nm
southeast of Sand Point at 999 mb dissipating Wed morning. The 
associated front decays over Western Alaska through Wed afternoon. 
A 967 mb low 365 nm West of Attu moves to 25 nm Southeast of Atka 
at 987 mb with its associated front pushing into the Alaska 
Peninsula by Wed afternoon.

.ANALYSIS AND UPPER LEVELS...
One feature dominates satellite imagery this afternoon, and that
is a very fall-like low pressure system churning south of the
Alaska Peninsula. The mature, vertically stacked system is at peak
intensity with a front stretching across the Alaska Peninsula,
through Kodiak Island, and eastward across the Gulf of Alaska. The
front is solid gale-force at the moment, already bringing moderate
rainfall to Kodiak. The position of the surface low is inducing a
strong down-Inlet pressure gradient, so despite a strengthening
Turnagain Arm wind, the brunt of it is staying away from south and
west Anchorage. Widespread middle and high clouds streaming off
this system are keeping temperatures suppressed, in the upper
40's in the late morning for most inland areas of Southcentral
Alaska.

.MODEL DISCUSSION...
Synoptically, models are in great agreement with the decay of the
current front and low pressure system. The current front is
progged to slide off to the east and stall out in a south/north
orientation just east of Cordova. Here is where model differences
arise. The particular frontal orientation where upper level waves
ride along the front is one that guidance notoriously struggle
with resolving. While models are in agreement with developing a
system along this front, moving it northward into the Gulf, timing
and placement are all over the place. That system will be the next
feature worth watching. The secondary system will have further
impacts on potential flooding in the Cordova area.

.AVIATION...
PANC...VFR conditions and light winds will persist. Any
uncertainty will have to do with potential Turnagain wind. The
pressure gradient should keep the wind bending away from
Anchorage, however there is a chance for a little wind to make it
into town late tonight/early Monday when the front passes .

&&

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA (Days 1 through 3)...

A mature cyclone spans from the Gulf Of Alaska with the tail end
of the cold front spanning into the North Pacific which will be
the main system this forecast period. Multiple vort lobes have
been detected circulating about the parent upper level low and
will move into southcentral and southeast over the ensuing 72 hr
period. The values of PW or precipitable water are running two
standard deviations above normal and the NAEFS is pinging into 10
to 30 return intervals for both PW and the U component for the
winds. Bottom line, the primary impacts will be gusty winds and
rain.  Gale to storm force winds will spread north across the
Gulf today then should weaken tonight as the front makes landfall
along the Gulf coast. Brisk to strong gap flows will also develop
near channeled terrain, such as, Turnagain Arm, Portage Valley,
and the Matanuska Valley. The gap flows should weaken late
tonight/early Monday morning.

Widespread shower activity will continue through tonight across
the southwest mainland as the strong north Pacific low continues
to move north towards the Alaska Peninsula. Showers will then
begin to diminish in coverage Monday morning as the low stalls and
weakens before eventually pulling away from the area. Strong gap
winds in the lee of the Aleutian and Alaska Ranges will also
begin to trend down this evening as an associated front pushes
north of the area and weakens. This will leave much of the area in
a benign showery pattern through Tuesday in weak cyclonic flow on
the northern periphery of the upper low south of the Akpen.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST BERING SEA/ALEUTIANS (Days 1 and 2)...
The Akpen low will continue to be the primary focus with respect
to sensible weather impacts through Monday afternoon, with rain
and gale force winds extending from the Akpen and surrounding
waters to the Eastern Aleutians. Conditions will then begin to
improve by Monday evening as the low weakens and starts to move
away from the area. Attention then turns to the extra tropical
system associated with the remnants of Typhoon Sanvu as it moves
into the Western Aleutians on Tuesday accompanied by another round
of rain and gale force winds.

.LONG TERM FORECAST (Days 3 through 7)...
The long range forecast beginning Tuesday evening remains in an
active pattern through next weekend. A North Pacific low south of
the Alaska Peninsula lifts a strengthening secondary low across
the northern Gulf coast and into the Southcentral interior Tuesday
night. This system is expected to bring rain to much of the
southern mainland as it crosses to the interior tuesday night into
Thursday, with the focus remaining on higher rainfall amounts
surrounding the Prince William Sound area. Guidance continues to
show moisture streaming northward from the Pacific and resulting
in heavy rainfall over Cordova during the early part of next week.
Therefore, a Flood Watch remains in effect for the Southeast
Prince William Sound area from Monday morning through late Tuesday
night. Gusty winds are also expected to ramp up along the
northern Gulf and Cook Inlet region as this system tracks through
the Gulf and into the southern interior Tuesday into Wednesday.

Further West our focus shifts to the remnants of Typhoon Sanvu
quickly tracking along the Aleutian chain through Thursday. This
system will bring rain and gusty winds to much of the area through
the later half of the week, as it moves along the southern Bering
and eventually back into the North Pacific by Thursday. At this
time, a ridge begins to build behind this system from west to
east. However, models continue to struggle with the amplitude of
this feature as yet another North Pacific low is anticipated to
quickly move toward the western Aleutians for the weekend. The
forecast was primarily influenced with the ECMWF through Friday,
then trends through the weekend were nudged using blended ensemble
means.
