Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Albuquerque NM 1212 PM MDT Wed Jul 5 2017 NMZ501-502-504>509-517>520-525-060300- Northwest Plateau-Chuska Mountains-Northwest Highlands- West Central Plateau-West Central Mountains- West Central Highlands-Southwest Mountains- San Francisco River Valley-Lower Chama River Valley- Santa Fe Metro Area- Middle Rio Grande Valley/Albuquerque Metro Area- Lower Rio Grande Valley-Upper Tularosa Valley- 1212 PM MDT Wed Jul 5 2017 ...HIGH-BASED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL CREATE ENHANCED THREAT FOR GUSTY DOWNBURST WINDS TODAY... Hot temperatures will continue over much of central to western New Mexico today with meager amounts of moisture present in the mid levels of the atmosphere. This will lead to the development of high-based showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and into the evening. Much of the rainfall will quickly evaporate as it falls into the dry air below the bases of thunderstorm clouds. This will lead to very gusty winds under and near any showers and thunderstorms. Some of these strong gusts will reach 50 to 60 mph, and could produce localized areas of damage. The threat for these "dry" thunderstorms and their gusty winds will primarily be along and west of the Rio Grande. 52
