NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0737 PM CDT SUN JUN 19 2016
AREAS AFFECTED...MN...NW WI...WRN LAKE SUPERIOR
CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 273...
VALID 200037Z - 200230Z
THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 273
CONTINUES.
SUMMARY...A SEVERE THREAT WILL CONTINUE THIS EVENING FROM NERN MN
SWWD INTO CNTRL AND SW MN WHERE A COUPLE TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL AND
WIND DAMAGE WILL BE POSSIBLE. THE SEVERE THREAT SHOULD EVENTUALLY
AFFECT WRN LAKE SUPERIOR AND NW WI WHERE A NEW WW COULD BE NEEDED
LATER THIS EVENING.
DISCUSSION...LATEST RADAR DATA SHOWS NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS
DEVELOPING ALONG A COLD FRONT EXTENDING NEWD ACROSS CNTRL AND NE MN
WITH SEVERAL SUPERCELLS ONGOING ACROSS NERN MN. AHEAD OF THE
FRONT...SFC DEWPOINTS ARE FROM THE MID 60S TO NEAR 70 F WITH MLCAPE
ESTIMATED IN THE 2500 TO 4000 J/KG RANGE. REGIONAL WSR-88D VWPS AT
MINNEAPOLIS AND DULUTH HAVE MODERATE TO STRONG DEEP-LAYER SHEAR
PROFILES WITH SUBSTANTIAL SPEED SHEAR AND SOME DIRECTIONAL TURNING
OF THE WINDS IN THE LOW TO MID-LEVELS. THIS WILL BE FAVORABLE FOR
SUPERCELLS WITH ISOLATED LARGE HAIL AND WIND DAMAGE LIKELY WITH THE
STRONGER STORMS. HAILSTONES OF GREATER THAN 2 INCHES WILL BE
POSSIBLE WITH THE MOST VIGOROUS UPDRAFTS. LOW-LEVEL SHEAR WILL ALSO
BE SUPPORTIVE OF A TORNADO THREAT FOR ANOTHER HOUR OR TWO.
THE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO APPROACH THE EDGE OF WW 273 BY 03Z.
ALTHOUGH INSTABILITY DECREASES MARKEDLY TO THE EAST OF WW 273...THE
AREA WILL STILL BE MONITORED FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF A NEW WATCH.
