MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0658
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0126 AM CDT FRI MAY 20 2016

AREAS AFFECTED...SE MS...SRN AL AND WRN FL PANHANDLE

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 183...184...

VALID 200626Z - 200830Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
183...184...CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...A THREAT FOR WIND DAMAGE AND HAIL WILL CONTINUE FOR
SEVERAL MORE HOURS AS A LINE OF STORMS MOVES EWD ACROSS SRN AL AND
INTO THE WRN FL PANHANDLE. NEW WW ISSUANCE MAY NEED TO BE CONSIDERED
TO THE EAST OF WW 184 AS THE LINE APPROACHES THE ERN EDGE OF THE
WATCH EARLY THIS MORNING.

DISCUSSION...THE LATEST RADAR DATA FROM MOBILE SHOWS A WELL
ORGANIZED BOWING LINE SEGMENT WITH A MESOVORTEX IN ITS WAKE. THIS
QLCS IS LOCATED ALONG THE NRN EDGE OF MODERATE INSTABILITY WHERE THE
RAP IS ESTIMATING MLCAPE IN THE 1500 TO 2000 J/KG RANGE. IN ADDITION
TO THE MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS...STRONG ASCENT ASSOCIATED WITH
THE MCV AND A 60 TO 75 KT MID-LEVEL JET ANALYZED JUST BEHIND THE
QLCS...IS PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR THE ORGANIZED BOWING STRUCTURE. THE
QLCS IS MOVING EWD AT ABOUT 45 KT WHICH WILL MAKE WIND DAMAGE LIKELY
ALONG THE LEADING EDGE. THE SEVERE THREAT WILL CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL
MORE HOURS ACROSS SRN AL AND INTO THE WRN FL PANHANDLE BUT MAY START
TO BECOME MORE ISOLATED TOWARD DAYBREAK.
