MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0248
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0251 PM CDT SAT MAR 19 2016

AREAS AFFECTED...PORTIONS OF CENTRAL/SRN FL

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 50...

VALID 191951Z - 192145Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 50
CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...THE RISK FOR DAMAGING WINDS AND A BRIEF TORNADO OR
WATERSPOUT CONTINUES FOR THE REMAINING VALID PORTIONS OF THE WATCH
AREA...INCLUDING THE RECENT LOCAL EXTENSION SOUTH TO INCLUDE BROWARD
COUNTY.

DISCUSSION...SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WERE IN PROGRESS AT 1945Z
ACROSS FAR SOUTHEAST FLORIDA IN THE VICINITY OF A CONFLUENT AXIS
BASED ON SURFACE OBSERVATIONS AND ANIMATED VISIBLE IMAGERY. AN
EARLIER STORM OVER NORTHEAST PALM BEACH COUNTY PRODUCED DAMAGING
GUSTS...AND A STORM JUST OFFSHORE OF THE CENTRAL BROWARD COUNTY
COAST PRODUCED A BRIEF WATERSPOUT. ADDITIONAL STRONG/SEVERE STORMS
WILL BE POSSIBLE FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS IN AN UNCAPPED AND
MODERATELY UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT IN THE PRESENCE OF 50-55 KTS OF
EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR. DAMAGING WINDS AND A BRIEF TORNADO OR
WATERSPOUT REMAIN POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY WHERE STORMS INTERACT WITH A
PRE-EXISTING OUTFLOW BOUNDARY.

FARTHER WEST...THUNDERSTORMS HAVE THUS FAR NOT INTENSIFIED ACROSS
SOUTHWEST FLORIDA AS THE EARLIER CONVECTIVE LINE CONTINUES TO MOVE
EAST. THE ENVIRONMENT IN ADVANCE OF THESE STORMS REMAINS FAVORABLE
FOR AT LEAST AN ISOLATED SEVERE THREAT FROM HENDRY/COLLIER COUNTIES
EASTWARD DURING THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON.
