west central Missouri will cause the Little Osage River to flood.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Saturday Morning)

Although hot and humid, dry conditions prevailed across the region
early this week. This pattern will evolve to a wetter pattern
starting today across much of the region.

Early this morning, showers and a few storms have developed across
eastern Kansas and northwestern Missouri in association with
a stalled frontal boundary up in the Cornbelt region.
Convective allowing models show some scattered development,
especially along the Highway 54 corridor. CAMs keeps much of this
morning's activity just north of our area, however, given
proximity we did increase POPs just a bit along and north of the
I44 corridor.

Our next upper level disturbance should swing through the region later
tonight kicking off additional shower and thunderstorm activity
around or just after sunset. Instability is forecast to be in the
moderate range with 0-6km bulk shear around 30kt or so, especially
across eastern Kansas and western Missouri. This may be just
enough to support a conditional severe weather threat. This threat
should subside a bit through the overnight as instability decreases.
Main threats look to be wind and hail.

In addition to the conditional severe weather threat, locally
heavy rainfall will likely occur. PWs nearing 2.0" indicate a
very tropical like air mass situated across the Ozarks, so any
convection that develops will be efficient at producing heavy
rainfall. Soils remain dry across the region, however, after
coordinating with surrounding offices, decided to hoist a Flash
Flood Watch pretty close to the Highway 54 corridor in response
to higher rainfall rates and possibility of training nature of
storms.

Friday, at least during the day, rain chances should be relatively
low from I44 southward as much of the precipitation will be situated
along the shear axis and frontal boundary north. Although the
better forcing will be north, guidance does have a slight QPF
signal keeping some mention of showers and storms during the day.

As the frontal boundary surges southward during the evening and
overnight, more widespread showers and thunderstorms can be
expected. Again, a conditional severe weather threat will
be possible along with heavy rainfall. Rainfall totals of 2-4
inches can be expected in the watch area, 1-3 inches further south
along the Highway 60 corridor with the least amounts across far
south central Missouri. The front should pass through the region
by around mid to late morning Saturday.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday Afternoon through Wednesday)

Behind the frontal boundary, a cooler and drier air mass will
begin to settle into the region. Temperatures should drop around
10 degrees or so below average for this time of the year with the
lowest temperatures falling into the lower and middle 50s by
Sunday morning.

A return flow will quickly set up allowing for a gradual warm up
and slight increase in humidity ahead of our next system due into
the region by Tuesday next week.

For the KSGF, KJLN, and KBBG TAFs: An area of showers and some
embedded thunderstorms are currently pushing through the area
early this afternoon. MVFR visibilities will occur with this
shower activity with IFR visibilities possible with any storm.
This activity will end from west to east this afternoon.

Additional thunderstorm activity is expected across Kansas this
evening and will spread off to the northeast into tonight. This
activity is expected to remain north of the area. Some scattered
showers/storms may be possible late tonight into Friday morning
across the TAF sites but coverage will be more limited and again
the better chances are expected to remain north of the TAF sites.

OZARKS AND EXTREME SOUTHEAST KANSAS.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED...

  LIMITED THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE RISK.
  ELEVATED FLOODING RISK.
  SIGNIFICANT LIGHTNING RISK.
  LIMITED EXCESSIVE HEAT RISK.

DISCUSSION...

  SHOWERS AND EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD
  ACROSS THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON. BRIEF HEAVY RAINFALL AND CLOUD
  TO GROUND LIGHTNING WILL BE THE HAZARDOUS WITH ANY STORM THIS
  AFTERNOON.

  ADDITIONAL STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS
  SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS THIS EVENING AND WILL SPREAD OFF TO THE
  NORTHWEST ACROSS WEST CENTRAL AND CENTRAL MISSOURI INTO
  TONIGHT. WIDESPREAD SEVERE IS NOT EXPECTED...BUT STRONG WIND
  GUSTS MAY BE POSSIBLE IN A FEW OF THE STRONGER STORMS.

  LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE WITH THE STORMS
  THIS EVENING INTO TONIGHT WITH LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING
  POSISBLE...ESPECIALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF THE HIGHWAY 54
  CORRIDOR LATER TONIGHT.

  HEAT INDICES MAY RISE INTO THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 90S ACROSS FAR
  SOUTHERN MISSOURI THIS AFTERNOON HEAD OF THE RAIN FALL
  CURRENTLY SAGGING SOUTH ACROSS THE AREA.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

  PERIODS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL OCCUR AT TIMES
  THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY MORNING AS A COLD FRONT MOVES INTO THE
  REGION. STORM TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF ONE TO FOUR INCHES CAN
  BE EXPECTED WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. THE HIGHEST
  AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED NEAR THE HIGHWAY 54 CORRIDOR. AROUND ONE
  TO THREE INCHES OF RAINFALL ALONG HIGHWAY 60 AND NORTHWARD.
  RAINFALL RATES IN THESE AREAS MAY BE HIGH ENOUGH TO SUPPORT
  LOCALIZED FLOODING.

  STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE AGAIN FRIDAY EVENING
  AND NIGHT...PRIMARILY NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE 44 CORRIDOR AS
  THE COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH THE REGION. DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE
  WINDS AND LARGE HAIL WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THE STRONGER STORMS.
