EXPECTED TO IMPACT THE MID-SOUTH BEGINNING ON WEDNESDAY...LASTING
THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT. HEAVY RAIN AND STRONG TO SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS APPEAR POSSIBLE.

CURRENTLY...AN AMPLIFIED UPPER LEVEL PATTERN WAS IN PLACE ACROSS
THE CONUS WITH A DEPARTING TROUGH IN THE NORTHEAST US AND A
DIGGING...DEEP LONGWAVE ACROSS THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST. THE MID-
SOUTH WAS IN BETWEEN BOTH OF THESE FEATURES WITH SHORTWAVE RIDGING
OVERHEAD. A QUIET AND COOL NIGHT WAS ONGOING WITH TEMPERATURES IN
THE UPPER 30S TO LOW 40S AREA-WIDE.

ON TUESDAY...THE WARMUP SHOULD BEGIN AS 850 MB TEMPERATURES BEGIN
TO RECOVER. THE HIGH...LATE MARCH SUN ANGLE PLUS MODEST MIXING
POTENTIAL SHOULD YIELD HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 70S UNDER
MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES.

TUESDAY NIGHT...LEE CYCLOGENESIS BEGINS IN EARNEST IN THE CENTRAL
AND NORTHERN PLAINS AS THE LONGWAVE BEGINS TO SLOWLY PROGRESS INTO
THE CENTRAL US. AN INITIALLY DRY AIRMASS ACROSS THE MID-SOUTH WILL
SLOWLY BEGIN TO MOISTEN AS A LOW-LEVEL MASS RESPONSE INITIATES
WITH STRONG POLEWARD TRANSPORT OF MOISTURE.

ON WEDNESDAY...A SUBTROPICAL IMPULSE...CURRENTLY ANALYZED OFF THE
BAJA COAST...WILL RAPIDLY TRANSLATE EAST-NORTHEAST DURING THE DAY.
THIS FEATURE WILL BE A DRIVING MECHANISM BEHIND BOTH SEVERE AND
HEAVY RAINFALL POTENTIAL LATE WEDNESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT AS
IT PHASES WITH THE MEAN LONGWAVE TROUGH. UPPER LEVEL LIFT
SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASES AS AN UPPER LEVEL JET STREAK ACCELERATES
ACROSS THE CENTRAL US. A CLUSTER OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL
LIKELY DEVELOP ACROSS THE ARKLATEX REGION IN RESPONSE TO THE
STRENGTHENING JET MAX...SPREADING EAST THROUGH THE LATE
AFTERNOON. FORECAST SOUNDINGS SHOW SUBSTANTIAL ELEVATED
INSTABILITY AHEAD OF THE DEVELOPING COMPLEX OF STORMS WHICH SHOULD
ALLOW IT TO MAINTAIN ITSELF AS IT MOVES INTO THE MID-SOUTH. A
PSEUDO-WARM FRONTAL STRUCTURE IS SHOWN IN MODEL GUIDANCE...BACKED
BY CAM SOLUTIONS WHICH ARE JUST NOW IN RANGE. MEAN-FLOW/CORFIDI
VECTORS SUGGEST TRAINING THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL ACROSS MUCH OF THE
MID-SOUTH ALONG AND JUST NORTH OF THE PSEUDO WARM FRONT. A PW
PLUME OF AT LEAST 1.60 INCHES IS SHOWN WHICH IS 2 SIGMA ABOVE THE
CLIMATOLOGICAL AVERAGE FOR LATE MARCH. FOR THE AFOREMENTIONED
REASONS...HEAVY RAINFALL WILL LIKELY BECOME A SUBSTANTIAL
THREAT..ESPECIALLY WEDNESDAY NIGHT. 2-4 INCHES OF RAINFALL IS
LIKELY ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE I40 CORRIDOR WITH LOCALLY HIGHER
AMOUNTS WHERE TRAINING THUNDERSTORMS OCCUR. WILL HOLD OFF ON THE
FLASH FLOOD WATCH TONIGHT...AS IT IS A BIT TOO EARLY FOR THIS
HEADLINE. THIS POTENTIAL WILL BE COVERED IN THE HWO AND ON SOCIAL
MEDIA.

ADDITIONALLY...IT APPEARS THAT STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE
ALSO POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY. THE SURFACE PATTERN
WILL LIKELY BECOME VERY COMPLEX WITH MULTIPLE CLUSTERS OF
THUNDERSTORMS ONGOING THURSDAY MORNING. SEVERE POTENTIAL SHOULD
BECOME MORE CLEAR OVER THE NEXT 24-36 HOURS AS THE EVOLUTION OF
THE SURFACE FEATURES IS BETTER UNDERSTOOD.

.FRIDAY THROUGH THE LONG-TERM...

THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL HAVE MOVED THROUGH THE ENTIRE MID-
SOUTH BY FRIDAY MORNING WITH A COOLER AND DRIER AIRMASS LEFT IN
ITS WAKE. A LONGWAVE TROUGH WILL PERSIST ACROSS THE EASTERN CONUS
WHICH WILL ALLOW A COOLER AIRMASS TO REMAIN ACROSS MUCH OF THE
REGION. A NICE SPRING WEEKEND IS EXPECTED WITH CRISP MORNING
TEMPERATURES...WARMING TO THE UPPER 50S AND LOW 60S DURING THE
AFTERNOONS. NO SIGNIFICANT PRECIP CHANCES ARE APPARENT IN THIS
PERIOD OF THE FORECAST.
