.SYNOPSIS...
In the wake of a cold frontal passage, abnormally dry and cool high
pressure will build in over the weekend. The first half of next
week will remain dry with the next chance for rainfall arriving
Wednesday as a cold front pushes across the mountains.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
At 530 PM Friday...very little convective activity on radar fine
line pushing swwd across the Savannah River basin...so confidence
was high enough to cancel the watch early...especially in light of
neighboring offices having already cancelled. There is still some
small possibility for addition storms to fire along the boundary,
but very soon that boundary will be out of the fcst area. Other
convection drifting down across the NW Piedmont is much shallower
and will probably not develop appreciably in terms of depth or
coverage. HWO was updated as well.
Otherwise...an upper trough was located along the eastern seaboard
this afternoon, with a shortwave moving down its eastern flank over
the Carolinas and GA. This shortwave should move south and away from
our area this evening. As the upper trough progresses, high pressure
will build east across the Appalachians on Saturday.
At the surface: Convection associated with the upper shortwave will
move south and out of the Piedmont area this evening. Cloud cover
spreading inland from the coast will linger through much of the
night...with a decreasing trend on Saturday. Winds are expected to
remain slightly gusty overnight, increasing again on Saturday in a
pressure gradient between an offshore low and high pressure building
down the Eastern Seaboard. Temperatures will run slightly below normal
tonight, and well below normal on Saturday.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 215 PM Friday: High pressure will be in place across the
region for the short term period. This will lead to mostly clear sky
conditions and no chance of showers or storms. Temperatures for
Saturday night through Sunday night will be below normal and then
return to highs around normal on Monday. Overall, expect a very nice
period for mid June.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 140 PM Friday, We are still expecting a return to above climo
maximum temperatures on Tuesday as the warming southerly llvl flow
picks up ahead of approaching cold front. It seems like the llvl
moisture flux return will be nominal enuf to prevent any late day
deep convection, but with an increase in llvl frontal bndry forcing
Tuesday evening/night shower chances will need to be introduced.
Shower and thunderstorm chances on Wednesday should mainly be
driven/enhanced/initiated by the southward sagging of the
aforementioned cold front. With the latest medium range model
response and timing, the best chances for robust activity may
wind up being south of the cwfa, with the north to south dwindling
of chances as the afternoon and evening wears on. The region should
be under a drier post frontal airmass on Thursday and either close
to the base of the eastern conus l/wv trough or dry nw flow.

.AVIATION /22Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
At KCLT...VFR. Some low to mid VFR cloud coverage is possible later
today into early Saturday as moisture moves inland from a low near
the coast. Thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and early
evening. Winds will veer from N to NE this afternoon, with gusts
persisting overnight, preventing fog and vsby restrictions from
forming.
Elsewhere...VFR. Low to mid clouds will move over the area this
afternoon, persisting overnight and into early Saturday, especially
over NC, as moisture spreads inland form a coast low. Thunder
chances exist at KHKY, too low to mention at KAVL, KGSP and KGMU,
and not expected at KAND. Winds will veer from N to NW this
afternoon at foothill sites. Winds will veer from NNW to SW at KAVL
on Saturday morning. With some gusts remaining overnight, fog and
vsby restrictions are not expected.
Outlook: Dry high pressure builds in for the weekend with VFR
conditions.
