Issued at 330 AM CDT TUE MAY 10 2016 Lingering light shwr/thunderstorm activity continuing across the region this morning as shortwave trough now seen on water vapor continues to slide through the lower Missouri Vly. Prevailing thought is that this activity will remain with us for a few more hours before the entire fcst area sees a general drying/clearing trend after sunrise. Otherwise...much of today will be dry as weak shortwave ridging currently over the central High Plains slides east with time. The combination of clearing skies...building heights...and continued southerly flow should allow afternoon highs to warm into the upper 70s to lower 80s across much of the region. Weather becomes a bit more interesting overnight as upper energy rotating out of the Central Rockies leads to leeside cyclogenesis across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. Strengthening low-level flow will allow a warm front to lift north across the region...which combined with decent isentropic ascent resulting from a 40+ kt low- level jet...should lead to developing shwrs/storms after midnight. Overall severe threat looks fairly low this morning thanks to weak deep-layered shear...however increasing precipitable water values will allow for fairly efficient rain producers. Wednesday shaping up to be the most active day of the period as sfc low lifting north along Central Plains cold front passes during the afternoon...with subsequent frontal passage occurring later in the evening. Current indications are that convection should develop along this boundary during the afternoon...before spreading downstream across our area during the early evening. From this vantage point...best deep-layered shear will remain northwest of our fcst area...however abundant instability should develop during the afternoon hrs thanks to remnant elevated mixed layer which should be present over the area. Quick inspection of shear vector orientation suggests nearly parallel flow along the incoming boundary...indicating a mainly a linear type convective morphology with strong winds and large hail being the biggest threats. Additionally...latest runs of the NAM and GFS suggest warm front from the previous evening may get hung up along/north of Route 36 as convection approaches from the northwest. As a result of increased boundary layer veering...a few isolated supercells cannot be ruled out across northern portions of the fcst area. Beyond this...conditions expected to quickly clear by Thursday morning as a cooler airmass descends across the region. Low to mid 70s appear reasonable Thursday and Friday with the next chance for organized rainfall arriving Friday afternoon as a secondary cold front slides through. The passage of this feature should allow even cooler weather to settle across the region heading into the weekend as high pressure temporarily builds in. Southerly flow to return by Sunday with a rather unsettled period looking to take form heading into early next week as a front stalls close to the area. && .Aviation...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Wednesday Morning) Issued at 629 AM CDT TUE MAY 10 2016 Early morning fog at both MCI and STJ will clear by 14z with onset of daytime heating.
