Large convective system over KS was tracking east along the
surface/low level warm front. Surface observations show that front
to be just south of the forecast area with the highest intensity
rainfall along and just to the north of the front through KS. Given
the trajectory of this system it seems likely that the southern half
of the forecast area, roughly along and south of I-70, will see the
highest intensity rainfall this morning, with the northern portions
of the forecast area seeing more of the stratiform rain area. Models
don't seem to be handling this complex very well with the NAM, GFS,
and the ECMWF taking this initial round further north. That then
seems to influence subsequent rounds of heavy rain to be further
north as well. Feel that while this is possible, the ongoing strong
MCS will help reinforce the front or keep it from lifting so far to
the north. So our preference is to keep the second round of heavy
rain, expected later tonight, over northern MO vs points further
north into NE and IA. This is in line with national guidance and feel
this is the most likely scenario. Overall, the couple of rounds of
heavy rain will still lead to between 2 and 5 inches of rain, with
some locally higher amounts.

The other issue for today is that with the warm front lifting into
the southern portions of the forecast area, the airmass south of the
front becomes very unstable with 30 to perhaps 35 kts of 0-6KM bulk
shear. This may support a few strong storms along and south of the
front. Initial development will likely be across central portions of
KS with storms then forming the second convective system and tracking
to the east and into the forecast area this evening/tonight.

For the extended, we'll quickly move back into a hot and humid
summer pattern with the upper ridge building into the middle part of
the country. Highs look to climb into the middle 90s Wednesday into
Friday.

Rain with embedded thunderstorms is beginning to overspread the
region from west to east. This area will stick around for most of the
morning before thinning out during the afternoon. Although it still
looks like IFR ceilings could linger through the afternoon and into
the evening hours. Then another round of storms should develop over
KS and spread eastward late this evening and tonight in a similar
manner to this morning.
