.SHORT TERM.../Today/
Issued at 412 AM CDT Wed Jun 15 2016

Primary concerns today will be precip trends along the Minnesota
border early, and high temperature potential into the afternoon. One
last lobe of forcing continues rotating around the southern portion
of the North Dakota/Minnesota upper low with isolated convection
from Missouri to just north of the border. Three hour MLCape changes
are actually positive into southern Minnesota at 07z as axis of 0-
2km moisture and associated convergence wraps into this area in
cyclonic flow so have added low pops along the Minnesota border
through 12z or so.  Effective shear values of around 30kts should
advance eastward with the system so would expect this little cluster
to remain near but just below severe.

The forecast soundings all show a dry airmass and decent mixing with
a few to extreme levels, possibly dry adiabatic to over 2km in the
more aggressive situations. Have nudged up highs a touch because of
this but confidence is not the greatest. Northern sections will
likely be less aggressive with recent heavy rains, but farther south
may be more problematic. Pushing 100F is not out of the question if
max mixing materializes.

.LONG TERM.../Tonight through Tuesday/

Upper level ridging will begin to build back into the tonight and
be in place Friday and Saturday before beginning to pivot a bit by
Sunday as a system approaches from the northwest. Canadian surfacehigh
pressure will drop south into the western Great Lakes and will
bring cooler air into northeast Iowa Thursday and across much of
the state by Friday with easterly flow arriving. Conditions will
remain warm and humid west of this boundary on Thursday and may
have heat index values in the 100 to 105 range by Thursday
afternoon over the far southwest. Possible heat headlines may be
required in that region. In addition there is a low possibility
for a few isolated thunderstorms over the southwest on Thursday
with the boundary in the vicinity and theta-e advection aloft. The
stronger push of dry air arrives on Friday with an abundance of
sun and highs in the 80s to lower 90s far west.

The thermal ridge will lean into the state on Sunday then retreat
further south on Monday as the upper ridge is squashed by another
system moving across southern Canada. This will allow for another
boundary to drop towards the state by late Monday into Tuesday and
bring the next threat for thunderstorms.

.AVIATION.../For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Thursday morning/

LIFR conditions due to fog and low ceilings were affecting much
of northeast Iowa at 12z, including KALO and KMCW. Conditions
should quickly improve with heating early this morning however,
becoming VFR by 14z. This will follow with a high confidence in
clear skies and VFR conditions into the evening. There is some
potential that additional fog may develop overnight, but the
confidence is certainly too low to include at this time.
