Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Fairbanks AK 337 AM AKDT Fri Nov 4 2016 .DISCUSSION... Models in decent agreement through at least 60 hours. Quasi upper level ridge from northwestern Canada will continue to retrograde back into Canada through Friday. The upper level trough will continue to develop and will become more prominent Friday night over northern Alaska. Models become more divergent beginning Sun evening. The GFS is much more excited about returning an upper level ridge into the central portion of the state than the ECMWF by the middle of the week. Substantially colder air will continue to pour southward into the Interior of Alaska from the Northeast portion of the state as an upper level low in the Canadian Archipelago spins colder air southward. the surface high north of the Arctic Coast and the surface low in Bristol Bay is continuing the moderately strong gradient across the Arctic Coast. The winds should begin to diminish later on friday and then through Sat. The gradient will then set up over Northwest Alaska on Saturday. Very little if any snowfall or other precipitation look to be on the horizon for most all of Northern Alaska with the exception of flurries.
