Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Fairbanks AK 509 AM AKDT Thu Nov 3 2016 .DISCUSSION... Models in fairly good agreement through the weekend. Weak upper level ridge over Northern Alaska extending from Western Canada westward through the northern tier of Alaska. Meanwhile moderately strong upper level low in the Bering Sea will continue to rapidly weaken. This will allow for a long wave trough develops southward over Northern Alaska. Upper level trough should remain in place through Tuesday. Boundary and surface level winds should begin to subside over the Arctic Coast through Friday. The strong winds are originating from a strong upper level high that is currently over the high arctic. This has prompted Gale warnings in many locations in the gradient flow over the Arctic Coast. The flow over the Arctic Coast will primarily be either parallel or onshore. This has the potential to bring in stratus and fog on the Arctic Coast. As the upper level trough builds in over the Interior. clouds will become more prevalent and surface temperatures will remain much warmer than normal although the 850H temperatures will continue to fall with the upper level trough building in. Flurries will likely be the rule of thumb across the Arctic Coast given the onshore flow. A short wave moves up over the Eastern Interior by Saturday and may spread some very light snow or flurries into the Interior. Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None. && .AFG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... Heavy Freezing Spray Warning for PKZ230-PKZ235-PKZ240-PKZ245. Small Craft Advisory for PKZ225-PKZ230-PKZ235. Gale Warning for PKZ240-PKZ245. && CF NOV 16
