AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SACRAMENTO CA 430 AM PDT THU JUL 9 2015 .SYNOPSIS... SCATTERED MAINLY MOUNTAIN SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH FRIDAY WITH HEAVY RAIN IN MOUNTAINS. ISOLATED FLASH FLOODING IS POSSIBLE. TEMPERATURES WILL BE BELOW NORMAL WITH A STRONG DELTA BREEZE. DRY SUNDAY THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK WITH A WARMING TREND. && .DISCUSSION... UPPER LOW NOW CENTERED OVER SOUTH CENTRAL CALIFORNIA AND SHIFTING EASTWARD. A SHORTWAVE CURRENTLY ROTATING AROUND THE TOPSIDE OF THE LOW BRINGING SOME SCATTERED LIGHT SHOWERS NORTH OF ABOUT OROVILLE. ANOTHER SHORTWAVE ROTATING UP THE EAST SIDE OF THE LOW BRINGING SOME ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY OVER THE CENTRAL SIERRA AND THIS THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY WILL LIKELY ROTATE INTO THE NORTHERN SIERRA PORTION OF THE CWA LATER THIS MORNING. MEANWHILE...FORT ORD PROFILER SHOWING A RATHER DEEP MARINE LAYER THIS MORNING AT ABOVE 3500 FEET COMBINED WITH A STRONG DELTA BREEZE. AS A RESULT...STRATUS DECK HAS EDGED INTO THE DELTA AND MAY MAKE IT INTO THE SOUTHERN SACRAMENTO VALLEY LATER THIS MORNING. UPPER LOW WILL SHIFT SLIGHTLY EASTWARD TODAY BUT REMAIN STATIONED MAINLY OVER NORTHERN AND CENTRAL CALIFORNIA PROVIDING MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY THROUGH THE DAY FOR A THREAT OF SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS MOST AREAS. MOST UNSTABLE AREAS REMAIN OVER THE MOUNTAINS BUT CAN NOT RULE OUT SHOWER OR THUNDERSTORM THREAT VALLEY AREAS NORTH OF ABOUT SACRAMENTO. SLIGHTLY COOLER AIRMASS AND CLOUD COVER WILL BRING DOWN HIGH TEMPERATIRES TODAY TO A FEW TO SEVERAL DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES FORECAST TO REMAIN ABOVE AN INCH SO ANY THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY SHOULD BE QUITE WET AND ISOLATED FLOODING MAY BE AN ISSUE AGAIN LIKE YESTERDAY. UPPER LOW LIFTS TO THE NORTHEAST INTO THE GREAT BASIN ON FRIDAY LEAVING A TROUGH ALONG THE COAST. ENOUGH INSTABILITY REMAINS FOR ANOTHER ROUND OF MOUNTAIN THUNDERSTORMS WITH A SLIGHT THREAT OVER THE NORTHERN SACRAMENTO VALLEY. LITTLE CHANGE IN THE SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED FRIDAY. A PORTION OF THE WEST COAST UPPER TROUGH MOVES NORTHEAST TOWARDS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ON SATURDAY BRINGING A THREAT OF SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS BUT OTHERWISE MOST LOCATIONS WILL SEE A DRIER PATTERN SATURDAY WITH TEMPERATURES STARTING TO WARM UP. SUNDAY LOOKS LIKE A DRY DAY ALL AREAS UNDER STABLE SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT AND A WEAK TROUGH OFF THE COAST. TEMPERATURES WARM SLIGHTLY ON SUNDAY BUT STILL CONE IN A LITTLE BELOW SEASON NORMALS. && .EXTENDED DISCUSSION (MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY) MONDAY INTO THURSDAY, NORCAL WILL BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A BROAD TROUGH AXIS WITHIN 100 MILES OF THE COAST, WHILE HIGH PRESSURE LINGERS OVER THE DESERT SOUTHWEST. AS A RESULT, THE SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT WILL BE FAIRLY STABLE AND DRY. TEMPERATURES WILL GRADUALLY WARM, BUT STAY NEAR TO JUST ABOVE NORMAL. JCLAPP && .AVIATION...
