As weak surface ridge moves to our east today, will see southerly winds return once again and help to erode the stratus, especially across the southern portions of the forecast area, but most of region to remain partly to mostly cloudy. Could see some patchy fog across this area for a few hours this morning. As for temps today, will be tricky depending on amount of cloud cover. Because of strong inversion initially, it will be harder for warmer air aloft to mix down today, so went with a blend of the warmer MAV and cooler MET, upper 40s far north to the mid 50s over central and southern MO. Byrd .LONG TERM: (Tonight through Monday) Issued at 406 AM CST Tue Dec 22 2015 With lingering inversion, will see strato cu move back across area tonight. In the meantime, next more significant system to approach the area tonight as upper level trof and associated surface system begins to lift out of the Central Plains towards the Great Lakes region. Forecast area to remain on the warm side of this system. So with 50kt+ low level jet, decent moisture advection and lapse rates, as well as CAPES between 500 and 1000 J/kg, will see showers and thunderstorms develop across the area late tonight and increase in coverage on Wednesday. Because of the decent parameters, could see severe thunderstorms develop Wednesday afternoon and evening ahead of strong cold front as it sweeps through region. SPC has placed most of forecast area in marginal risk with areas to the east of a Steelville MO to White Hall IL line in a slight risk. The main threats will be damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. As for temperatures, will see our lowest temps this evening, then temperatures to remain steady or slowly rise overnight. On Wednesday, warmest temps will be around midday, then as cold front slides through will see falling temps behind the boundary. Depending on speed of system, temperatures could end up being warmer. For now have highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s. Storms to exit region by 06z Thursday, so will see a dry period from Christmas Eve through most of Christmas day before next round of precipitation moves in Friday night and persists through the weekend and into early next week.
