Focus for thunderstorms has set up even further south than short term guidance had suggested, so have reduced PoP even more with this update. Issued at 515 PM CDT Sun May 17 2015 Quick update to refine PoP forecast this evening further with convection starting to develop across eastern Ozarks. Appears that most of the activity will remain south and east of St. Louis. CVKING && .SHORT TERM: (Through Wednesday) Issued at 401 PM CDT Sun May 17 2015 Thunderstorms have yet to redevelop over the area as instability has been limited by clouds and earlier rain. This has decreased chances for severe thunderstorms given recent 20Z SPC marginal risk. Still may be some scattered showers and thunderstorms develop in a band of low level moisture convergence tonight over the southeast two-thirds of the CWA ahead of a surface cold front. Thunderstorm chances will continue tomorrow over the southeast half of the CWA as a shortwave trough moves across the area as the front moves southeast of the area during the afternoon. Monday night and Tuesday look dry before there is good consistency between the GFS/NAM in bringing a shortwave trough across the area on Wednesday night that is worth likely pops. Britt .LONG TERM: (Wednesday through Next Sunday) Issued at 401 PM CDT Sun May 17 2015 GFS and ECMWF are showing a similar pattern in the extended with a weak shortwave trough moving across the area on Wednesday Night, so will maintain a chance of showers. Then some weak upper level ridging builds in from the Central Plains which should reduce rain chances before both models show a sharp trough moving through the central U.S. next Sunday. Will go with showers and thunderstorms Saturday night and next Sunday. Temperatures will initially be below normal as we will be north of the surface front and 850mb temperatures will be 5-10C range, but then we will gradually warm through the period ahead of next weekend's trough.
