MINNESOTA...NEAR KUIN...AND NEAR KCMI.
PRESSURE FALL DATA SUPPORTS ADDITIONAL CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT...
PROBABLY ELEVATED...EAST OF KOMA IN WESTERN IOWA.
THE PERSISTENT LIGHT RAIN FROM THE NOCTURNAL CONVECTION ALONG THE
MISSOURI/IOWA BORDER INTO WESTERN ILLINOIS IS THE KEY TO WHAT
OCCURS LATER TODAY. THE LONGER CLOUD COVER/PRECIPITATION REMAIN
ACROSS THE AREA...THE CHANCES OF SEVERE STORMS IS REDUCED AS THE

NORTH TO THE LOWER TO MID 60S ACROSS THE SOUTH. SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DEVELOPED THIS MORNING ALONG THE WARM
ADVECTION WING FROM KSUX TO ROUGHLY KIOW.

THE MAIN FORECAST CONCERN THIS PERIOD ARE THE CHANCES OF
CONVECTION TODAY AND POSSIBLE SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS LATER TODAY.
MODELS ARE IN GOOD OVERALL AGREEMENT BUT BIG DIFFERENCES REMAIN IN
THE PLACEMENT OF KEY FEATURES WITH THE ECWMF BEING AN OUTLIER TO
THE SOUTH.
THE CURRENT CONVECTION ACROSS IOWA IS HANDLED WELL BY THE WARM
ADVECTION WING TOOL WHICH FORECASTS THE CONVECTION TO DEVELOP
SOUTHEASTWARD THIS MORNING AND SINK SOUTHWARD ACROSS THE SOUTHERN
HALF OF THE CWA. IT APPEARS AT THE MOMENT THE CONVECTION IS BEING
HELD IN PLACE BY HIGH PRESSURE TO OUR SOUTH WHICH MAY CHANGE AS
THE LOW LEVEL JET VEERS TO THE EAST BY 12UTC BUT WEAKENS . EXPECT
THIS PRECIP TO SHIFT SOUTHWARD AND EXIT TO THE EAST TODAY.
A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT THE EVOLUTION OF TODAYS WEATHER EVENTS.
THE CURRENT THINKING IS THAT HIGH PRESSURE TO OUR SOUTH WILL SHIFT
EASTWARD INTO THE OHIO VALLEY TODAY AS A SURFACE LOW DEVELOPS IN
THE LEE OF THE ROCKIES IN EASTERN COLORADO AND WESTERN KANSAS
OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE REGION. THIS BOUNDARY IS FORECAST TO LIFT
NORTHWARD THROUGH THE DAY AND SPREAD WARM AND VERY MOIST AIR INTO
THE REGION THIS AFTERNOON. THE GFS...GEM AND NAM ARE IN GOOD
AGREEMENT THAT THE WARM LIFTS NORTH TO THE WISCONSIN AND IOWA
BORDER REGION WHILE THE ECMWF KEEPS THE BOUNDARY ALONG THE IOWA
AND MISSOURI BORDER WHICH HAS BEEN CAUSE FOR CONCERN. THIS
SOLUTION WOULD KEEP US FROM RECEIVING THE EXPECTED HEAVY RAINS
LATER TONIGHT.
WE HAVE REDUCED POPS AFTER 18 UTC AS THE WARM ADVECTION WING
SHIFTS TO THE NORTH AND EAST WITH MAINLY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND
STORMS POSSIBLE ACROSS THE REGION BEFORE THE POTENTIAL SEVERE
WEATHER AFTER 00 UTC THURSDAY. DUE TO THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE
FORECAST WE HAVE EXPANDED THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO INCLUDE THE
HIGHWAY 20 CORRIDOR AND NORTHEAST MISSOURI.

MAIN FORECAST CONCERN FOR THE LONG TERM ARE THE
CHANCES FOR SEVERE WEATHER AND FLASH FLOODING TONIGHT ACROSS THE
AREA. VERY DIFFICULT AND COMPLICATED FORECAST FOR THE AREA THROUGH
TONIGHT. MOST OF THE FORECAST DEPENDS ON WHAT HAPPENS TODAY WITH
THE CONVECTION.
CURRENT THINKING IS THAT THE ELEVATED WARM FROM FRONT WILL BE ACROSS
THE AREA WITH THE WARM FRONT ACROSS THE CWA. SOUTHERN ZONES WILL
SEE DEWPOINTS IN THE 70S WHILE AREAS NORTH OF I80 WILL BE BE IN THE
MID 60S. CURRENT THINKING IS THE STORMS WILL INITIATE NORTH NEAR
HIGHWAY 20 CORRIDOR. DEPENDING ON WHERE THE SURFACE FRONT IS...A
CHANCE FOR TORNADOES WILL EXIST ALONG WITH STRONG WINDS AND LARGE
HAIL. THESE STORMS SHOULD COALESCE INTO AN MCS AND MOVE SOUTHEAST
ACROSS THE CWA. STRONG WINDS AND POSSIBLE EMBEDDED TORNADOES WILL
BE POSSIBLE. HEAVY RAIN AND FLASH FLOODING WILL BE A THREAT WITH
THESE STORMS AS WELL. PWATS ARE FORECAST TO BE CLOSE TO 2
INCHES...WHICH ARE IN THE 90% PERCENTILE. THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH WILL
CONTINUE THROUGH THE PERIOD. ALL OF THIS WILL BE DEPENDENT ON WHAT
HAPPENS BETWEEN NOW AND 00Z. THERE IS A CHANCE THAT CONVECTION WILL
