.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)
Issued at 209 AM CDT SUN AUG 10 2014

The weather across the region early this morning was rather quiet
with calm winds and partly cloudy skies. A rather moist air mass
was in place over the region with the weak stalled boundary
persisting across the area.

This quiet weather will change quickly through sunrise as a
thunderstorm complex now moving eastward across eastern Kansas
begins to move into extreme southeastern Kansas and western
Missouri. This system will be able to take advantage of the near
1.75 inch precipitable water values noted on the 00z sounding from
last night. A weak but present 850MB LLJ over southern Kansas will
help sustain the convection through sunrise. The system will also
be able to take advantage of the 2000 to 2500j/kg of cape across
the area.

The system is expected to move through the Ozarks region this
morning and linger through this evening as is moves slowly to the
east. The one thing the system will not have much of to work with
is shear. This will limit the chances for severe storms. While
wide spread strong to severe storms are not anticipated, a few
isolated storms may produce down burst winds exceeding 50mph as
the system makes its way across the Ozarks today.

Localized flooding will be a concern as the slow movement of the
system will be able to tap into the moist air mass over the region.
Rainfall rates with the strongest storms may near an inch per hour
at times.

The synoptic models really are not handling this morning's storm
system very well. Despite the poor initialization, all the models
do develop additional showers and storms through the day today and
into the overnight hours. This is more in response to an upper
level trough moving out of the plains and into the Appalachian and
Great Lakes region.

.LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday)
Issued at 209 AM CDT SUN AUG 10 2014

The upper level trough will be in the process of transitioning
east through the day Monday. This will allow for additional
scattered showers and isolated storms to start the work week.

The nice and once again unseasonable cool weather comes behind
the rain on Monday as Canadian high pressure moves into the region
on upper level northwesterly flow. This pleasant, cool, and dry
weather will then persist through most of next week. Afternoon
highs will only be in the lower to middle 80s with the "coolest"
day Tuesday as highs only reach around 80 degrees. Temperatures
will start the slow climb through the week with highs for the
weekend climbing back to near normal in the upper 80s to around 90
degrees.

Another storm system will also accompany the warming temperatures
for the weekend, though the models do show strength and timing
differences.

Issued at 1202 PM CDT SUN AUG 10 2014

A generally low confidence forecast for the terminals this
afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms are expected to develop west
of JLN early to mid afternoon, and move and develop to the east and
southeast with time. Gusty winds and a drop to IFR can be expected
should a storm move over a terminal. Outside of TSRA, VFR
conditions will prevail. Some light fog and/or stratus development
is then expected late tonight, with conditions dropping at least
to MVFR, with some possibility of IFR. Improving conditions are
then expected tomorrow morning as drier air begins to move into
the region from the north.
